Tooth Damage
This never even occurred to me until my surgeon went over all the common/uncommon risks and side effects.
Has anyone ended up with any damage to there teeth from the tube as its an uncommon one?
I have a tiny chip on the back side of one of my front teeth, you cant even see it only I can feel it is I poke at it with my tongue. Super worried that it they caught it a tiny bit its got to mess my tooth up!

Re: Tooth Damage
I haven't heard of anyone having their teeth damaged whilst having a GA. You could mention it to the anesthetist so they are aware & know to be careful. If your tooth has a small chip but is otherwise a healthy tooth & not loose in any way you should be fine.

Re: Tooth Damage
Yeah I was thinking of doing that and going to see the dentist to get abit of reassurance that it is as sturdy as I think!
I haven't been able to find anything about it happening to anyone, but they obviously have to tell you just in case!

Re: Tooth Damage
Its more a 'cover all bases' thing. Im sure its happened a few times to some people in any surgery, but I've certainly not heard anything on here. Mention it to your anaesthetist on the day, and they'll likely just go to the other side of your mouth to avoid it. Don't stress too much about it though.

I have no idea, I didn't even know they were used! I think they're just regular intubating tubes, so no, not big. You know when you see on the medical shows when they have to clear the airway? its just like that, so in case of an emergency, they've got a clear airway for you.

Re: Tooth Damage
My lip is REALLY sore got a big lump on the inside from the tube! Was the first thing I noticed when I woke up, I can't imagine it being capable of damaging teeth though!xo

Re: Tooth Damage
It's very rare if it does happen. I've got a crown on my front tooth and just mentioned it again before they put me under. Woke up and my teeth were fine, just very sore throat x

Re: Tooth Damage
The tube that goes into your airway is small and you won't know anything about it. They take it out just as your coming round. Which again you won't know anything about. It's used to keep your airway open that's all xx

Re: Tooth Damage
It's because while under GA you breathing can become very laboured because of the paralysing drug they give you. The small tube is placed to keep your airway open during surgery. We do not know anything about it. Neither do we hear or see all the machines they use in theartre. They connect you to all sorts of machines to monitor you. I found my op a very pleasant experiance. Felt ok when I woke xxx
