Hello ladies, my BA is booked for the 22nd of May exactly 2 weeks today :) is it safe to drink this weekend or should I stay tea total? I'm really worried my blood won't be back to normal by surgery if I do! Xx

It's so confusing isn't! Some say you can drink up to the day before, some say 7 days, 10 days and now 2 weeks! I think I might play it safe also xx

I wasn't told not to. Or wasn't told not to eat garlic, or anything anyone else was! My admission letter just said don't drink the day before.
I was at a wedding on Sat last weekend and I drank. Not as much as I normally would to be honest but was drunk. I just laid off the shots! Maybe just take it easier if you do want to. As long as you're following the specific advice you've been given you'll be fine. All surgeons seem to have different guidelines xx

I wasn't told not to drink by my surgeon or in any of my admission details. I had my last drink a week before surgery just to be on the safe side. Alcohol leaves the system within 24 hours so 2 weeks before surgery should be fine unless you've been told not to buyout own surgeon x

As a general rule, you should avoid it 2wks before and 2wks after. The alcohol may leave your system within 24hrs, but its effects on the body do not. For example, I was getting bi-weekly blood tests for my AOSD to check on my inflammation and liver levels. I had unusually high spikes in liver levels, so much so that they ordered me an ultrasound. It was from having 5pints on the Saturday before my Wednesday blood test.

If you've been told explicitly by your surgeon not to, then don't. If you've been given no instruction, maybe give them a call. In my opinion (and no one else's) a couple of drinks this weekend will be fine as long as you're then clean up to the surgery. So long as that doesn't contradict your surgeons advice.

Yeah i was told at me pre op that a couple of drinks is fine 2 days before but nothing to make me tipsy or drunk. I have a wedding 3 days before i go for my BA but im staying alcohol free as i worry i will risk it for afew glasses of wine! xx

Hi, if you can just try and advoid it. It's not really worth it. I think they say 2 weeks to be on the safe side, if someone was a really heavy drinker they would need 2 weeks as it thins the blood. So I think they air on the side of caution. Xxx
