The school run! Empty The school run!

Post by Twinky 3rd May 2015, 8:56 am

Hey guys. Been reading a lot of posts on post op recovery, my hubby is off work for the first week so covered for kids then. But week 2, I'm wondering  if I will be up to the school run.? I have 3 children,  2 can pretty much sort themselves but  my boy who is 5, still needs help with his bags etc and getting sorted in the mornings.
I'm thinking the walk itself wil be ok, as it's only 10 mins away, but as only 1 of my friends knows about the op, I just a bit nervous now  thinking is it going to be obvious. It's June,  it's going to be hot, you will be able to see my sports bra through my clothes etc! Will I be walking differently,  like hunching!?
Maybe I'm just over thinking it. But I purposely avoided the 6 week hols as thought recovery would be best with the kids being at school.
Now Im thinking the whole trip there may be tricky. ....?

Any mums out here, how did you find the school run?

Hi Twinky! I'll be in similar position to you and have exactly same concerns so hopefully someone who has been there will be on to give advice :-). I've also got 3 kids (9, 6 and 2) and am thinking about surgery in August cos I'm worried about school run and I don't want any of the mums to know - only my closest friend and husband know, not even my mum. But saying that I don't think it will be too obvious in a sports bra - yesterday I saw PCC at my consultation who was 1 week post op and I'd never have known if she hadn't told me! I'm sure you'll be fine! If worried about your posture when walking you could always make something up like you hurt your back or something? Xxx

Hey hun, I'm in the same situation as I've got 3 boys. My husband is off from the 7th til the 18th with me and the first day I'll need to do the school run after that is 20th but we drive. Do your older children know?
I've not told mine as the older 2 are staying at their dads the first weekend and he knows I am having an operation but that's the extent of it as would be less likely to help out if he knew why!
Don't worry about your sports bra. I really don't think people would notice unless they are on show as I don't clock other mums boobs in the playground. I would have no idea if any had surgery.
I've read a lot of post surgery ladies who have said they have walked a bit hunched which I guess is a natural and protective kind of thing.
Can any other mums help you out that second week if you are struggling? Xx

Hi ladies, I was in the same situation, I done the school run 2 weeks post op about 15 min walk. I had to walk slow, and did walk hunched. It was ok though. Just take your time, and you'll be fine. x x

Don't worry about the sports bra thing as some of them look like bras anyway. But you may be wearing a band ? I don't care what people think. I personally don't care if they can see I had my boobs done. But that's just me. Xx

I think the reason I'm worried is because it's my business, and I don't want it to be noticeable and people ask, cos mums can b nosey! And I don't want to tell anyone,  so just want to avoid that if I can.
My daughters are 8 and 9, very impressionable and I just don't want them to know. Don't want them to think you need surgery if your small breast,  there so innocent for there ages, I just really want to avoid all that tbh.
And so the less people that know,  the better it is for my kids ever finding out at the end of the day.

Hell they only learnt about what smoking was about a yr ago, cos we just don't know anyone that does smoke lol!
Totally innocent, and Im happy for it to stay that way really.

I do get a bad back quite often so I'm going to be using that  excuse for why mums all hunched up and in bed early etc!
What will be will be I guess, I would just really like to avoid the boob conversation with anyone, and I always wear padded bra's so hoping it's not too noticeable anyway.

The hunch is a natural protection thing, but you should start to ease yourself upright after a few days, it'll make you feel better. Don't worry about your bra, I wear sports bras at the weekend anyways, plus they don't know you're not off to the gym! Packing bags, lunches etc, just try and get organised the night before so your partner can lend a hand. And just take it real slow on the walk, give yourself a little more time than normal, and if the kids ask and you haven't told them, mommy's hurt her back and can't go too fast.

I totally understand and respect why you aren't telling your girls. I think I will tell my boys but if they were girls I think I  would be the same as you. I agree with you wholeheartedly about keeping them innocent for as long as possible!
Good idea about having a sore back just so
They know you're not 100%
All my team at work know but by the time I'm back the whole building will...everyone loves a bit of juice. So you're definitely doing the right thing not telling many people if you want to keep it private xx

I've not told many people, and no one has noticed. I didn't tell my kids (step daughter 9yrs, boys 4 and 2) for the same reasons as you....I don't think they need to know. You'll be surprised that no one will really take notice....if you were to say to me 'what size boobs does so and so on the school run have?' most people would have no idea! It's only us boob obsessed ladies that are going through boob jobs that notice!! Most people who would notice my boobs now probsbly wouldn't have a clue how they looked last week for example. People are too wrapped up in their own stuff. I had my op in June and wore a band for 6 weeks....no one saw or noticed it!

Good prep as charli suggests and you should be fine!

Hi, I'm 10 days post op and will start doing the school run from Tuesday,  I've told my older daughter 10 but my 5 yrs old thinks I've done a rib surgery.
I think that if the allow yourself extra time to get ready in the morning etc it should be fine...I'm coping well and can go for short walks without feeling too uncomfortable. It won't be noticeable and you can always wear a scarf, people won't even notice.

I'm 2 weeks and 1 day post op and will be doing the school run again this week. I feel able too and not walking hunched over now or anything. Also I'm driving now as normal and doing pretty much most things. I'm just doing them slower and not over doing things or lifting anything heavy etc but I'm feeling pretty normal now. Cooking dinners and normal daily things lol but only just started doing those things. I gave myself two weeks of doing nothing at all, thanks to the help of family. As I haven't told anyone else x
