Re: Feeling scared
I was exactly the same. Honestly you will never meet anyone as frightened of operations etc than me. I thought about leaving hospital the day of mine. I did think about the alternative though and know I'd hate to go through life feeling so unhappy with my body.
I've had a couple very bad experiences with hospitals and was very very scared but it was totally fine.
I have had a virus since though which is typical for me!
You will be just fine xx

Re: Feeling scared
The GA will be fine, these people are experts at what they are doing, and as long as you've stuck to the pre op instructions, you'll be absolutely safe. And if something was to go wrong, you're in the best place with the best people around you to fix it. You should meet your anaethesiologist along with your surgeon on the morning to help put you at ease. Mine had such a thick accent I couldn't understand a word! But they really do a good job of putting you at ease. Maybe look up some breathing techniques beforehand to help calm any nerves.

Re: Feeling scared
He gave me a small dose before the main one and it made me feel relaxed. The main dose was so quick I went to sleep instantly x

Re: Feeling scared
Hi rach,is this the first time you have had a ga? If so I can understand the way you are feeling. Not knowing how it feels to have a ga! Please don't worry, you will be in safe hands. Once they give you the ga,you ha e about 5 seconds and you are asleep.think of it as having a nice kip. You won't know anything about it until you wake up.it feels like you have been asleep for 5 minutes. You can't fight it and you will just shut your eyes. You may wake up with a dry throat or have the shivers like I did. But you will say after. It's not as bad as I thought. Think of the lovely pair of boobs you will have after. And for me it was also the sandwich I had as I was starving . It may well be worth putting a post up about the things you have running through your head! Like how we felt when the ga was given for a breif few seconds. And how you can expect to feel after! Sending big hugs your wayxxxx

Re: Feeling scared
I had one 20 years ago and I just remember being really sick afterwards, I'm mainly panicking about the feeling just before you go to sleep. I don't like feeling out of control. Does that make sense?!?! Xxx

Re: Feeling scared
You are not a wimp. What part of it is it that scares you? What thoughts do you have that frightens you? Are you ok with the cannula they put in? ️It's good to talk about these things otherwise your thoughts run away with you. You are goi g to be the proud owner of a lovely pair of boobs ️xxx

Re: Feeling scared
Yes it does make sense. Ga has changed a lot in the last 20 years I promise you that . You won't have time to feel out of control. It's so quick. Think of why you are having your ga! For the boobs you have always wanted. You will be very well looked after. But do tell your anethiatist how you are feeling. They will help put your mind at rest. Xx

Re: Feeling scared
I agree with Anne, tell them you're nervous about the GA and tell them you've been sick before. They'll help you relax and also make sure you have an anti sickness drug. You will be fine though, and most likely enjoy the experience. Ga's are so safe now, they even opted to give me one when I was pregnant when they didn't have to (they choose a GA over a spinal block). You're in safe hands and just think boobies boobies boobies!!

Re: Feeling scared
If its the sickness you are worried about let the surgeon know and they can administer anti-nausea during your surgery.. Me and my mum get sickness after GA and it always helps with the anti-nausea the give you.
Please dont worry, honestly its not as scary as you think! I always feel abit tearful before having an op but its natural so feel scared. They give you the GA theough your cannula and then they talk to you, your feel yourself slurring like your either drunk or reeeeally tired then the next thing your waking up which feels like 5 mins later to a nurses face :-) dont panic! Your be gaining amazing boobies after! Xxx

Re: Feeling scared
I've had a spinal and would rather have ga any day! I felt a bit sick couple hours after waking and they gave me anti sickness drugs too.
I think making myself eat and drink plenty made the sickness go within minutes. Your blood sugars are low after fasting for the op so getting them up really helps with nausea x

Re: Feeling scared
I didn't really get any sort of drunk feeling as I was going under. It was just count backwards from 10, got to about 8, then boom, boobs! A lot of girls get sickness, so it's totally normal. Let them know if you've had it before and they can add something to make it better.

Re: Feeling scared
I've had GA in the post and have a bad memory of it so I also started freaking out about going back under. Although here in Prague they have me some pills to make me feel very relaxed before putting me under and then were gently stroking me cheek while speaking to me and it went SO well :) you'll be ok babe xxx

Re: Feeling scared
The lead up is so scary when you haven't had a GA. I had never even been in hospital! Felt all kinds of emotions but it really is a piece of cake. You will be fine!
The feeling is lovely, my sis told me to imagine you were dozing off on the beach in the sun when you go under and it puts you in a nice place, waking up chilled and happy. It did exactly that. I enjoyed the feeling & short nap.
Read some surgery stories on here, will make you feel better seeing how girls have panicked then found it was a nice experience! Xx

Re: Feeling scared
I agree it's quite a nice feeling and you've nothing to worry about at all hun. It's understandable your scared when you've never had a GA before. I was the first time ( not for BA, cus I'm still pre BA lol ) but for something else. Running around after the kids all the time & going to work.. I was grateful for the sleep and will be this time lol just think when you wake up, you'll have two lovely new boobies : ) xx

Re: Feeling scared
I was like you & put of having op for years because of the thought of having a GA, come op day it literally felt like I had no sooner drifted of into a nice cosy sleep to then being woken up in recovery, felt like I'd only just shut my eyes & actually quite enjoyed it! Next time I need mine done again I will definately be more excited than worried going in for op!

Re: Feeling scared
This thread has made my stomach drop lol I hate GA! It's so horrible and scary, the bit just before.. feeling out of control and spaced out and the feeling when you wake up from it and you feel so drugged up and out of it. It's awful but the only way to get boobs. I feel your pain!x

You've probably already done it now but I'm worried about that too. I'm convinced it's not going to work on me! I hope it all went well for you today :)
