How much swelling is normall?
I'm on day 3 post op and my boobs seem huge- recently my bra felt really tight and the space between them is all puffy. Then my back and along my spine is spongey ? Is this normal ? I wondered if my bra was too right - I have changed from renolife to the m and s sports bra with two back extenders . This is horrid !

Re: How much swelling is normall?
Swelling will vary from lady to lady, but what you're experiencing does sound perfectly normal. You will probably get the abdominal bloat to go along with it too in a day or so :( This period is definitely one of the worst, and the puffiness between the boobs and all around will go soon.
What size bra are you in at the mo? They will seem so tight at the mo...I remember really struggling to get one done up....oh my god my mum and i trying to get it done up were something out of a comedy sketch! I wear it now and it's not at all tight, and oddly I didn't even notice the swelling go. Well actually I probably did...right around the time I came on here panicking that my boobs were getting smaller! :)
Try lots of ice packs if you have any...that'll really help with the swelling.
How are you getting on otherwise? x

It will go down hun. I had spongey ribs, back & sides. It was horrid! You have had a g.a. so your body is getting rid of all the waste & things from it. My spongey feeling was gone by day 5.

Re: How much swelling is normall?
It's perfectly normal to have boob greed one day and then think they are too big the next. They have undergone trauma so bound to be swollen. There is no point in assessing their size this early on. There are so many changes to come. If you were happy with the sizers/rice boobs I'm sure you'll be really happy with your result. Result being a timepoint in 3-6 months time, maybe longer! Try not to focus on them for now. Happy healing!

Re: How much swelling is normall?
I'm in 32 back e cup. But I have two bra extenders on it . The renolife was a size medium but felt like it was getting really tight which I think is why my spine went numb !

Re: How much swelling is normall?
The swelling will be all around your torso, up the ribs, down the back, and your books. They will go down eventually, it'll take about 3wks. Make sure you're sleeping with your shoulders above your heart to help drain it, and a Lil exercise, just doing laps in the hallway once an hour will help. But rest up and drink plenty of fluids. They'll look less huge and scary soon

Re: How much swelling is normall?
You're at the point where swelling has kicked in & is usually at it maximum. It will only get less from now on in.
In the meantime focus on keeping yourself comfortable, like Charli has said sleeping elevated will help & small walks so you don't stiffen up.
Try not to worry about size & look of your boobs ( easier said than done) they are only going to change over the coming weeks & months, so don't give yourself the unneeded stress. XXX

Ice packs over the tops will help with itching, just keep them away from the incisions. If it gets really bad, take an antihistamine to help

Re: How much swelling is normall?
They feel like two baby bumps on my chest , like the bottom of my boobs are numb and they just feel like they are a bump ? They haven't gone wrong and are filled with liquid are they ? Also my bra is digging onto my incision does this matter ?

Re: How much swelling is normall?
Numbness is normal, mine still are. Nerves can take up to two years to grow back. And no, they're not filled with liquid! Though they are surrounded by fluid at the moment, with the swelling, protecting them. That's why they might feel a bit swishy, or you may hear some trumping from them! As they're so new, they'll be super high and tight, giving that baby bump feel. They'll drop and soften in time. If your bra is digging in and its uncomfortable, try popping a panty liner in there to pad it out (sticky side to bra), or maybe you need a size up to accommodate the swelling better.

Re: How much swelling is normall?
It's so hard gembo, you're probably at the hardest time point. Most people get past the worst bit on day 5 and then after 1 week start feeling more human. Stay on top of your pain killers and rest as much as you can. Rest assured, how you're feeling is totally normal. Try and focus on how you'll be feeling in a week....loads better!

Oh hun, it's ok to cry! It's all the emotions and the GA, it really is a rollercoaster. Another couple days and you'll start feeling more human. I would try and keep your bra on if you can, maybe use the straps to hold the ice packs in place. Not for too long though, 5-10mins at a time.

Re: How much swelling is normall?
Ha, don't worry, tmi is fine round here! If you're getting uncomfortable, try Lactulose, you can get it over the counter at a pharmacy. One tablespoon and you're away! If you can wean off the codeine, it's best to, just stick with paracetamol. I'd say use ice packs for no more than 20mins every 2-3hours. You don't want your boobs too cold or it'll slow the blood flow and hinder the healing

Re: How much swelling is normall?
I didn't poo u till day 8 or 9 don't worry about tmi...everything goes out the window here! If you feel like you can manage without, try and cut back or cut out the codeine...that'll be adding to the constipation too. I didn't know what was more unbearable at times...that inability to poo or the boob discomfort! But you're another day down...and one day closer to a bit more comfort xx
