intense nipple pain
Is that normal? They were a little sore earlier, zinging almost, but I've just had to take some codeine as my god it's taking my breath away. I'm rocking here back and forth like some crazy lady in the hope the swaying motion calms them down!!??! X

Re: intense nipple pain
Yes I would say that's normal. I didn't get that until the second week but everyone is different! Are they sharp stabbing pains? Or like a really sensative pain ? Xx

Re: intense nipple pain
like sharp shooting pains every time i breathe in. i am trying to take the smallest breaths instead. I've got feeling back all over them and the sides are so tender to touch, do you think it's just the pain radiating? hope this passes! x

Re: intense nipple pain
It sounds like nerve pain to me. What you have to think about is what has happened to the inside of your breast. You just had surgery and they are not exactly gentle while you are asleep. It's just all part of it. Try ice packs but keep away from incisions. If nit a bag of frozen peas will help. I'm no expert but I have had the same. It's gets really sensitive too and even the bra is uncomfortable for me. Just keep on top of your pain meds. And do nothing and relax. It will all be worth it. Xxxx

I also use small cotton wool pads for my nipples to put between bra and nipple. That can help. Xxx

Re: intense nipple pain
I completely forgot about my icepacks! I've just undone the top half of my bra to see if that relieves it. Did try taking the band off for a few minutes but it felt like they were shrinking! Think it was just the air on them! I feel like such a wimp...and I bet this isn't even the half of it! xxx

Re: intense nipple pain
Really you are not a wimp. Everyone is different. I spent 3 weeks complaining. Maybe you are not getting on with the macom? Some girls don't . Just keep on top of pain meds . It's a big thing your body has just gone through. I developed this awful cough and cold in my first 2 weeks and coughing hurt but couldn't stop. I wouldn't say for me it got worse I just had different phases. One week was tightness the other itching and so on. It's all good though because at the end of it you will have fab boobies xxx

Re: intense nipple pain
Thanks Anne :) What are the tell tale signs that I'm not getting on with the bra? Don't know how you coped with a cough...I think I'd have spent the entire time crying dreading the next cough! xx

Re: intense nipple pain
If you are finding it uncomfortable. I find the fabric on mine irritating. Cookie is quiet good on recommending bras. I got the triumph extreme which is good. It's makes a world of difference. I wear my macom at night and my triumph in the day. It's worth a try to see how you get on. The only trouble is knowing what size you are . All your swelling will be coming out. Xx

Re: intense nipple pain
It's not irritating me yet, but I read the triumph thread and I'm planning on getting that one next. Was going to hold out until after xmas thoughh as hopefully some of the swelling will have subsided and I'll know what size to get for the time being. Also wanted to wait until I can lift my arms a bit more...do you have any trouble putting it on now? xx

You'll get there! Try not to take shallow breaths and make an effort to take deep ones or else you may end up with a chest infection!

I slept OK last night but was in the hospital on their beds that sit up. Tonight I've set up camp on my sofa...its a corner one so am cushioned from both sides. Not positive about getting much sleep though tonight if I'm honest! X

Oh crikey I didn't realise that mammamia! I wish they'd tell us these things. I'll just breathe through it then as a chest infection is last thing i want! Feels like my chest is going to pop open! X

Re: intense nipple pain
Yes I know! I've had chest infections in the past and luckily my surgeon went on at me about doing deep breaths (he didn't know I'd had them in the past so I'm guessing it's normal advice!). It probably also everything stretch out too rather than tensing up! Good luck with the sleeping! I slept in bed with about 8 pillows!!!

Re: intense nipple pain
Sorry to hear you're finding it uncomfortable Hun. It's nerve damage all the nerves have been irratatsd and cut , so sharp electrical shocks are actually a good sign they're trying to reconnect.
Cotton wool pads or maternity breast pads are a good cushion between nipple and bra.
Ice packs are great use OVER the bras however and don't be undoing or taking off straps at 1 day post op. It WILL be a tad uncomfy and bra irritating at first especially as you'll be swollen too.
And the skin can also be itchy anyway around the whole area.
As for shallow /deep breaths never heard of that?! I know deep breaths are more encouraged for relaxing and relaxing your body and muscles.

Re: intense nipple pain
It did seen a bit random and just got me thinking maybe I was mistaken but I just googled and came across this! [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Obviously not in relation to an adult ba but I imagine the principles remain the same! My surgeon said it was important to take pain relief if needed, to ensure I could continue to breath normally/ deeply thus preventing a potential chest infection.
Every day's a school day on this forum lol!!

Re: intense nipple pain
I'd have said to breath as normally as you can, just to make sure your blood is oxygenated enough so you heal ok. Stay on top of your pain meds, try taking codeine and paracetamol on alternate 4hrs, so you're taking something every two. Ice packs across the tops of your boobs can help to. But it is a good sign, and will pass eventually.
As for the bra, it's just down to how comfy you are. If you're ok in the macom, stick with it, at least until your swelling goes down.

Re: intense nipple pain
It really is...so glad of the advice! :)
Mrsball I didn't last long with bra undone...my boobs told me it actually felt better done up...whilst prepared for lots of discomfort I don't think I really considered how localised and piercing it could be. Very naive of me, but the excitement of getting boobs took over much of my brain hehe.
Have managed to get quite comfy on the sofa...surrounded by pillows and one of those tiny foam balled aeroplane neck cushions to keep my head up. Think I need to start jotting down time I take meds as losing track...each hour seems to blur into the next.
You'll all be sick of my pity stories soon ha, but honestly thank you for listening!!
Xx

Re: intense nipple pain
All good advice already given, maybe work the doses of pain killers so your one before going to bed is the stronger one being codeine, hope the ice packs work & meds get you a good nights sleep! XXX

Re: intense nipple pain
I've got paracetemol, ibuprofen, codeine and the antibiotics. They didn't give me the paracetemol though I had them here. What's the best schedule do you think?
The travel pillow is great! Found it by luck last week when sorting out a cupboard! Its been great this evening :) xx

Re: intense nipple pain
Oh yes, it's as your nerves start to knit together. Mine didn't kick in for a couple of months, then I couldn't bare to even have a towel brush against them. Coz you're further down the line, you could try some numbing cream that is used for breast feeding.
Try taking the codeine 30mins before you want to attempt to sleep if you can, itll help knock you out!
