Shower or not?
Hi ladies! I had a wound check with nurse today and asked if I can have a shower and she said shower is fine however no soaking in the bath? I think I am a bit paranoid and would like to ask your opinion as I do not want to wet my incisions in case of infection? Or shall I ring my surgeon and ask? x

Hiya I suspect your dressings are splash proof not waterproof if you have any. From what I understand it's best to keep wounds from soaking . A bath is fine but just do t soak under the water. Someone will be along with more experiance than me. Make sure your incisions are dry after. A blast with the hair dryer on a very cool setting will make sure they dry. Xxx

Re: Shower or not?
You can shower, a bath is a no no as not to soak or immerse the inscions, it's that what can lead to infection.
Water running over your incisions in a shower is fine.
After a shower make sure your incision dressings are completely dry, do this by blasting on a cool setting with a hairdryer.
Enjoy your shower

You could soak bottom half in the bath. Just not boobies or incisions do as your nurse advises you xx

Re: Shower or not?
I see you used Mr McDiarmid. He helped us here for a good long while, so we love James here
James uses a glue over his incisions as do most priivate surgeons, giving the wounds a showerproof shield. - enjoy your shower hun. You'll be just fine. Xx

Shower, it'll be amazing! You can sit in a waist deep bath too, but like the girls have said, no soaking. Water is a breeding ground for bacteria, but a hot shower and drying your incisions will be fine.

I have had an op on both my feet and can't have shower OR bath for 4 weeks..., and then I'm having my BA in 4 weeks so still no bath! I am sooooo looking forward to a proper shower. Enjoy your lovely shower Camilla and you will be able to have a good ole soak in the bath in a few weeks x

Re: Shower or not?
If you have help at home, you could fill a shallow bath and dangle your legs over, so your can have a good flannel/sponge wash? Then your help could come and help you out the bath when finished.lairyfairie wrote:I have had an op on both my feet and can't have shower OR bath for 4 weeks..., and then I'm having my BA in 4 weeks so still no bath! I don't have a bath, only a shower and due to infection the old members here will recall I had to go 12 weeks without showering. They could smell me through the forum
What I used to do was run the shower, sponge wash and then using the shower head I'd shower off the suds keeping boobs dry. If you used Anne's tip to po carrier bags over your feet you could shower like this too.
Where there's a will....there's always a way lol. Xx
Re: Shower or not?
I showered on day two and used a hairdryer to dry my dressings - nurse said it was fine and I went home with spare dressings just incase I needed to change them.

Re: Shower or not?
Thanks Anne & Cookie, I have a lovely little old lady shower stool now that I am sitting on in the bath with legs dangling over and using shower head. A major improvement on strip-wash! I wouldn't trust the plastic bag trick completely submerged but its given me more freedom splashing around. Thanks for your inspiration guys I feel squeaky clean. By the way Kez I have heard of the hairdryer thing a few times and keep forgetting, need to remember this for my op. I hope that's worked for you Camilla x
