Smoking
Hi all, just a quick question . The surgeon says no smoking for 5weeks befor surgery, but it takes 48 hours for nicotine to compleatly leave your body. 24 hours for carbon monoxide to leave , 20 mins for bp and heart rate to return to normal . If it's the nicotine that is harmful why 5 weeks ? As it happens I stopped 5 weeks ago but just curious xxxx

Re: Smoking
Yours said 5, mine said 2 either side. Again, its just surgeon/clinics individual guidelines. Stick with it and keep up the great work, I know how hard it is!

Re: Smoking
I think you're right as doesn't smoking increase/decrease the size of your vessels?
Well done anyway! Has it been hard stopping?

Re: Smoking
I think it gives the blood vessels/cells the best chance of becoming more active rather than sluggish so your skin and therefore your scars heal as well as possible. I think 2 weeks is average time but some surgeons ask for more to give a better chance of healing. Smoking was a deal breaker with my PS and he said at least 4 weeks either side.

Re: Smoking
My surgeon said 4 weeks before or it's a deal breaker.
The surgery paperwork says 2 weeks before.
I have been trying to quit for the past 2 weeks, I have reduced it down to five a day but decided to go to the Smoking quit clinic on Friday and will be stopping with the help of Champix again as of Monday.
I did try on my own but haven't got great will power.
I will do it though as I want my new boobies.

Re: Smoking
The withdrawal stage for smokers I read somewhere is generally around 3-4 weeks, so giving you a 5 week time period I'm presuming your surgeon will be confident you're over the worst and will be a better candidate for this kind of surgery then.
It's fact that smoking can hinder your recovery. It decreases the oxygen in the bloodstream which can slow down the healing process and could lead to infection. Its a proven fact that smokers are at a higher risk of infection post-op.
If you do go back to smoking, throughout the entire time you have implants this WILL also increase your risk of CC. Smoking with breast implants goes waaaay beyond the healing process because of the 'proven' link between smokers and getting CC. The risks are much higher than they are for non-smokers. Xx

Re: Smoking
Hi I was a 20 a day smoker so know how you feel. But it's really important . If you really can't stop now then make sure you have stopped a clear 2 weeks before op and after the op. Good luck . Xxx

Re: Smoking
Hello ,
Not sure if this will help but I think it's worth a go as it worked for me,,,
Try chewing on a really strong chewing gum - airwaves ? Everytime you want/need a cigarette, I did that and I went from a 25+ a day smoker to nothing, been smoke free for 5 weeks now....
I only gave up because I knew I ws ready to book my BA
Xx good luck xx

Re: Smoking
Sugar free Lollipops are another thing that might help. I know they're what help my dad quit. It's often the hand to mouth habit that is hard to quit along with the need for nicotine, so having a lolly you can take in and out as you would a cigarette may help you get over that part if you're finding that at all hard too. Xx
Re: Smoking
Hi Cookie,
I hadn't thought about sugar free lollies.
I will have a look for some of them tomorrow too, worth a try.
Thank you all for the great tips, feeling the love and support.

Re: Smoking
Lucky for me I was never a big smoker before (15 or so a day), the past two weeks I reduced it to around 5 a day but now I'm 12 days away I really have to stay off them.
