TIVA twilight anaesthesia for BA -anyone had this?
I have booked my BA with Mr Hassan at West Midlands Hospital. He will use TIVA anaesthesia which means I will not be knocked out just heavily sedated whilst the surgeon uses local anaesthetic. The recovery from this is meant to be far better than going under general anaesthetic. I am just worried about not being knocked out as I am having unders. Has anyone else had TIVA and could you feel anything? Thanks x

I've had it twice lol. Honestly babe you don't even know what's going on. I was petrified as I thought I would have been aware of it. One minute I was awake the next I was waking up out of my sedation. You don't feel anything, don't see anything and I'm going for 3rd BA with same technique.. Recovery for me was very quick. I was out walking the day after. Don't get me wrong it's not pain free but you don't have the GA to recover from. I was driving 3 days later after 1st and next day after 2nd. If you need any further advice don't hesitate to ask.. xxx

That's really good to know, I am a lightweight when it comes to pain and started to worry i would be able to feel it. Have you got ant tips for before/ after surgery and on the day? Hope your 3rd op goes well x

I think in terms of recovery, its more meant to be recovery from the anaesthetic, rather than the op. You're still having the same op as any other girl! But its much quicker to come round from and is out of your system faster, which is why its normally a day case. Try searching for 'sedation' and 'twilight' in the search box for a few more stories.

I still wAsnt allowed to eat pre op and I think the best advice I could give u is just to relax and don't worry about it. You won't feel anything. The anesthetist was joking with me that the sedative is "truth serum" as people quite often talk the whole way through it completely unaware lol and say things that in normal circumstances wouldn't say.. For me it was a really good experience and I practically ran in 2nd time. I wouldn't have been able to do it if you could feel it or see it as I don't know anyone who is more squeamish than me.. X

Thank you for the reassurance. I has a right weird dream last night about my op. I ended up with one massive boob in the middle of my chest with one tiny boob on the side ha ha woke up clutching my boobs in panic. Mental.

I had deep sedation with my ba, can't remember a thing I had unders as well. Having a GA was a big worry for me so sedation was the perfect solution.
Good luck xx

That's is weird.. Your mind will be in turmoil.. Mine was.. I nearly didn't go through with it on the day as I was so nervous but seriously I would do it again right now if I had to..
I was sedated in theatre too. I saw everything around me and then the nurse and anaesthetist were chatting to me and sedating me at the same time.. One minute I was talking the next I was wakening up from my op. It's bizarre. You don't feel out of it just very relaxed.. Once the local wears off it is sore but only lasts a couple of days. Then you can walk normally.. I was stooping for a few days.. As other people mentioned the op is exactly the same and recovery similar it's just the LA or GA that's different and different effects x
