Twilight surgery
Has anyone on this forum had twilight surgery ? I'm curious to this, I've been told its very uncomfortable, but when and if I am allowed to have a BA, this option appeals to me, as I have had lung surgery on both lungs and dread the thought of going fully under, any input will be appreciated

Re: Twilight surgery
Twilight surgery is surgery performed while the patient is under heavy sedation but often still awake, while a local anaesthetic is administered so that the patient is unable to feel a thing. There are several additional benefits as well as pain relief: patients do not run the risk of usual complications associated with having general anaesthesia, and they can move while the operation is being carried out. Some drift off into a light sleep and appear to be seemingly unconscious, while others can actually chat during the op but awake with no memory of it at all.
To be honest I'd be a little scared of being awake. I'm sure I've heard of places doing this, I'm would have a look around at different places. I didn't mind a GA but I suppose I was lucky and didn't react badly to it at all.

Re: Twilight surgery
One Lady here had it not too long ago for B.A., she said it was great and went straight back home on the train a couple of hours later. Not sure who with..though was one of the well known companies and surgeons, in central London.
I understand you looking into it for your B.A.
I have had it for a carpal tunnell op and no problem, saves the after effects of G.A. You do not feel or see anything. Good Luckxx

Re: Twilight surgery
I was going to have this either through linea or castlefield clinic in manchester.
Linea told me they only used very light sedation so you would be awake through the procedure and Castlefield told me its rare that someone is awake through twilight surgery and most patients normaly sleep straight through.
I thought about it alot but decided to have my op just under GA and i must say im really glad i did even though i was petrified before hand!
Another thing to bear in mind aswell is they cant be as 'rough' during Twilight surgery so the op generally takes quiet a bit longer and apparently local anesthetic can be dangerous when used for a long period of time. :dunno:
I think it would be best to book some consults and ask the surgeon what they think will be the best option for you. Good Luck Hun x x

Re: Twilight surgery
Hi, I had mine done under local aneasthetic only (no sedation) as i really didnt want to have a GA. It was quite uncomfortable tbh and i probably wouldnt opt for this option again. The best part was that after he put the first implant in, i could have a look and tell him that i was happy with the size and i went home an hour aftre my op .

Re: Twilight surgery
Wow, this is something i hadn't heard of, would def be interested in finding out more. I have an awful time with GA,- first time i was constantly sick and the second time, every time i went to sit (let alone try to stand up) i kept passing out,- low blood pressure and i was also sick a couple of times even though i had an anti sickness injection :pale: .

Re: Twilight surgery
I had twilight sedation. Don't remember a thing about the op - the proceedure was exactly the same as GA - lie on the table, in with the drip & off you go. The bonus is the recovery time is really quick. I was up and about straight after the op, out of the hospital a couple of hours after and had a nice romantic meal that night.
Highly recommended !!
