Re: Not allowed to shower for 4 weeks?
Hope you get it all sorted out soon. As others have said usually showering is delayed for longer if theres infection & not healing properly which isn't the case with you.
The stitch sounds like a split stitch and can be simply removed, if you can't easily get back to your clinic/ hospital to have it removed ,you can give them a call and ask if it's ok to go to your GP surgery & have the nurse there remove it. XXX

Yip could be a spitting stitch, had one and it does eventually settle

Awwww that's not how it should be Gabriella.gabriella101 wrote:Come to the conclusion that plastic surgery most definitely isn't for the feint hearted! Xxx
When you were discharged from the hospital you should have been given the hospitals contact details. I'd call them and explain your confusion. Tell them that you KNOW 4 weeks without a shower is not the standard procedure when wounds are healing fine. You've been told all is well and yet....no shower for 4 weeks and you'd like to know why no shower when you're healing so well this 'only' applies to you? If there's a problem (you know there isn't) and this is the reason for the length of time not showering you'd personally either like a second opinion preferably with your surgeon because twice now by the same nurse you've been told you're healing well. Which is causing you both confusion and concern.
Hope you get it sorted lovely. That nurse is whacko I think Xx
:)
Thank you for all the advice girls, you've been stars!!
I went back this afternoon to get my stitch cut and met with a different nurse. She was lovely and made me feel very relaxed. I asked her about the showering and she said to me that a month ago meleagros popped in to see her and told her that from now on she was to tell all his patients not to shower/get the incisions wet for four weeks. She was very understanding about how difficult the 4 weeks are but I should really keep at it. Whilst she was cutting my stitch she said my boobs looked great and the scars were healing so well. She put new dressings on both my boobs and then sent me away. I tried to call my surgeon this afternoon but he's not free until next week.
I think what I'm going to do is stick to the rules. It seems silly but mr meleagros seems a sensible guy and maybe he has a reason for it. I will try to get hold of him next week. 2 weeks on Thursday I can shower, literally counting down the days girls!!

Well, you got your second opinion
If both are saying the same you have no choice but to abide by it really have you.
I'm grateful you let us know though so when I open your posts I can put my nose plugs in peeeeeeeeeeeyeeeewwwwwwww!
Hahaha only messing Gabriella. The time will fly by. Those that have been here for a long time will remember the length of time I had no shower - 12 weeks! In my head I thought it was the worst thing in the world, but it really wasn't so bad. I just used my shower, or you could shallow bathe if you prefer and washed everything down below as normal and then flannel washed my upper body. You'll need help washing your hair at first, but you'll soon get the hang of doing that by yourself too once your arms strengthen up.
You'll be fine hun. Xxx

Yeah thanks cookie, 2 more weeks to go. Gosh 4 weeks sounds tame to your 12 weeks, that must have been horrible for you :( poor you, but your boobs look amazing now though so I'll just keep that in mind :)
