No, don't use pure ice, as theres a chance they could drip onto the incisions, and water is a breeding ground for bacteria. Ice packs or peas across the top of the breast only.
Best tip for recovery is to allow yourself to recover. Its a big op, and I think a lot of people think because its a cosmetic procedure, its not a 'real' operation, so you should be back up and running in no time. This isn't true, your body will suffer a lot of trauma, and you have to allow yourself to rest and recover. If your sleeping, your healing.
Healthy diet is going to be key too, plenty of fluids, white proteins and veg is going to help. And after a couple days, get back up on your feet for short gentle walks. this will help you feel better, and reduce the chances of dvt.

Re: is it true
like charlii said healthy recovery can be helped along with a good diet, plenty of protein in it
But really it will just all be down to your body and how long it takes for it to recover after the GA ect too
I used the arnica gel, not the cream and put that in the fridge and when I was struggling with the pain and needed relief I rubbed it all over (not near the incisions) and the relief was amazing xx

Ice packs were a godsend when I had my surgeries,I used them all the way throughout, not just for the swelling. I used then for nerve healing pain, if I'd over stretched, sore nipples and a few other niggles. I simply couldn't have got through without them.
In addition to all the fab information our lovely Charlii provided for you, you may also find this thread helpful to get yourself started on a good healthy diet 'now' to give your boobs the best chance of good healing, you can read about it [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Anti-histamine cream is also something many women find helpful through the nerve healing stage (they can make you itch) round cotton make-up pads are another that help when nips gets over sensitive and also sanitary towels or panty liners, they're another to help with sensitive scars. Xx
