Meds? Empty Meds?

Post by Purple123 30th June 2014, 5:00 pm

Hello ladies!

I was wondering when and what type of meds you get given for post op?
Will I get given a prescription when I leave the hospital or do they give you boxes of medicines to take home with you?

Thanks!

They give you the boxes and it depends what your pain is like. Some girls get Tramadol etc, others just get paracetomol/co-codamol. You'll get anti-biotics too x

Hi Purple,
I had my BA a few days ago as you know. I was given one antibiotic tablet as I'd had the rest whilst in hospital. For pain I was given paracetamol, extra strength Ibruprofen and then codeine to take if required. I was given boxes on discharge.

Same with me! Co-codamol and ibuprofen on discharge. No antibiotics, I think I only had those IV whilst in theatre x

As others have said it depends on the pain you have as to what they give you on discharge. I wasn't given any antibiotics as had large dose in with the other meds during GA. X

I was given a 5 day course of anti biotics, paracetamol, high strength ibruprofen and tramadol. I had to write down what time I had took what in the first days so I didn't get muddled up! Plus I found it better to keep my painkillers topped up as I would get too uncomfortable. I only took the tramadol at night and it was great for making me feel drowsy and making it easier to sleep on my back. x
