Hi ladies

It's my birthday next week and would like to have a meal and drink with my friends.

I have looked in my post op notes and it doesn't say anything about drinking.

Is there any time limit on having a drink post op??.  I'm not looking to go silly just to enjoy my birthday night

Xx

I was told a few days I think. I had a glass and half of wine a week afterwards. I wasn't taking any pain killers though x

I had one glass of wine the Friday after my Sunday surgery, but no more. 2weeks is the general rule to be clear of complications, plus getting the antiBs and painkillers out of your system. If you're just on paracetamol, one glass shouldn't hurt (but I'm not a dr). But if you do take any codeine, steer well clear. I experienced this last Friday...all came straight back up!

it's basically as always, don't mix alcohol with strong painkillers and antibiotics.

i had my first drink about a week or so after the op, i did feel like it affected me quicker than usual, but as long as you're aware of that you'll be fine!

you might also want to be careful to not get too drunk so you don't bump into things etc.

enjoy your birthday xx
