Drains?
Hiya - ohhh just noticed I've been promoted from a newbie!!! Lol
Did anyone have drains?
My surgeon has said I will have drains & I can only imagine that these are like tubes from each breast collecting fluid????
Does this mean I'm not going to be able to get up out of my bed?
Are they painful?
Am I having them because I'm having a lift?
Xxxx

Re: Drains?
Hey babe,
I have no advice or anything regarding pain or getting out of bed, however it's not because you're having an uplift that you're having drains. I'm having an uplift, and I wont be having drains. It's purely down to each individual surgeon whether they use drains or not.... It's just their personal preference sweetheart. Xx

Re: Drains?
My surgeon doesn't use drains as a rule but my op is more complicated so he is. I assumed it was because of time. I think it stops too much swelling not sure though x

Re: Drains?
Im still pre ba but from reading other threads, Drains won't restrict u, U'll just have 2 small bags of fluid to carry when going to loo. From what people have said no they aren't painful.

Re: Drains?
Hi Hun, I did not have drains so I can't speak from personal experience but there are lots of girls on here that have. If you do a search in the box at the top for drains it should bring up loads of threads about them.
From what I have seen in pictures from some girls there is a drain from each boob into 2 bottles to collect blood etc, and I have heard it is not too bad when they take them out.
It is purely surgeons choice if they use them or not.

Re: Drains?
Hi hun.
I had drains and had straight forward BA.
Some surgeons like to use them as they believe it will reduce risks of swelling/hematoma/seroma developing post op.
If the drains were left in for ages there may be a risk of infection but as yours won't be in long and you will be given antibiotics your surgeon has decided that the risk of drains outweighs the risk of other potential complications.
The drains get inserted not through your scar but they do a little skin ***naughty word*** nearby (won't need stitches).
I had mine taken out 4 hours post op and one didn't hurt at all- you just feel tugging sensation.
The other one stung a little. The nurse told she would stop when I felt any pain but I told her to carry on as I just wanted to get it done with so I could go home. All in all discomfort was 2 out 10. 10 being the worst pain I can imagine.
I watched as she took it out and I was surprised how much tube was in there lol :) I love stuff like that.
I have a picture of my drain bottle on picturetrail. I had 2 tubes going into one bottle. I had to carry it around to go to the loo.

Re: Drains?
Thank you
Kdeee that makes me feel abit better. Not sure how long I will have mine for - I'm having my surgery in the evening then home next day
Would you mind if I looked at your pictures so I can see what a drain looks like?
Xxx thanks

Re: Drains?
I will PM in a tick.
The drains are really thin tubes that go into the bottle. You can see fluid moving down in them.
If you have yours in the evening they are likely to remove your drains in the morning around 7 when the nurses do their rounds. I didn't feel them in place whatsoever. Besides they will provide you with lots of painkillers. I had oromorph straight after the op and it took all the pain away
Don't worry about the drains- I was weary of them and there was no need to be concerned at all xx

Re: Drains?
Thanks Hun
The drain doesn't look too bad then - I guess both tubes go into that one bottle?
Btw - your boobs look fab - you must b really pleased. I like your sports bras too - what brand is the grey/pink one? I presume the other is a Macom.
Was gonna order a Macom today but I'm confused over size. I've always had a 34 but took the tape measure to myself earlier & I'm a 32. I've already brought a 36 shock absorber so now I haven't got a clue what size to buy!!! Lol
