Been awake during BA and uplift? Empty Been awake during BA and uplift?

Post by Boney1992 14th February 2014, 8:33 am

Hi ladies, first of all happy valentines day to you all!

I'm going to see my surgeon on Monday for a sizing appointment, also, I've been looking up on the internet about not having a GA, but been awake for the op? I'm not too sure of the specific name so I hope you're all following and know what I'm talking about. Sounds so silly, but I'm actually scared of dying during my operation and been having bad dreams about it, so would much prefer to be awake and numb. Can any surgeon do this or is it just certain ones? I don't want to bring it up just in case he thinks I'm daft for even suggesting it. Xx

Twilight sedation.. not all surgeons offer this but it wouldn't hurt to ask. The risk of dying under GA is very rare x

Twilight anesthesia is an anesthetic technique where a mild dose of general anesthesia is applied to induce anxiolysis (anxiety relief), hypnosis, and anterograde amnesia (inability to form new memories). The patient is not unconscious, but sedated.

Fear of dying under GA is the biggest fear by most people having one , it was for me hence it took me many years 20+! to finally pluck up the courage to go for it. I couldn't believe how easy it was drifting of into a nice cosy sleep then being woken up what felt like minutes later!
Twilight sedation may be an option your surgeon may operate in this way, your numb so can't feel anything and sedated so probably unaware and sleep anyway.
You may find it helpful to read some of the boobie diaries where people describe their feelings pre GA & post GA , all have the same worries your having right now.

I just don't want to seem stupid for suggesting it if he doesn't do it. He's not mentioned it before so I'm guessing he doesn't? Is there a way I could find out without having to actually ask him?...Thanks girls for advice girls! I've had plenty of GAs before and never once worried. This time is different for me and I have no idea why I'm feeling like this xx

he will have had many many questions regarding the GA so just ask honestly I bet he would rather you ask that not

I am not good under GA and if I need anoter reop to consider sedation but I havent even thought about it as I just wont be doing it lol

I love the feeling of going under GA and then the sleepy sleepy feeling you get when you wake lol xx

This was my worry also HOWEVER ive had GA before when i was 7 and was ok.

My brother (whos a nurse) said it it extremely rare for someone to die under GA , mostly people who are very unfit and obese are more at risk.. so i wouldn't worry about it Hun

Hiya, babe!!
As the other girls have said, it's totally normal for you to be having nightmares about not waking up! I had a couple of those too and I know for a fact that it's very common to fear GA! It's the feeling of having no self-control, being completely vulnerable and in the hands of a drug! Trust me, honey, the risks of are so, so slim and thousands of people every day go under GA :) before you know it, you'll have woken up and you won't be able to believe that you've actually had your op done!

Please don't feel embarrassed or worried about asking your surgeon for other anaesthetic options! He'll get that question asked so many times a week and won't think you're ridiculous in any way at all for asking him! :)

Take care, babe, and i hope you resolve your situation soon :) xxxxxx

Thanks girls! Xxx

I know the risk is so, very low. I've had plenty of then and never bothered, so for this to scare me just worries me. Soosie - I'd really love this done! Was it your suggestion? Will be asking my surgeon about it on Monday xx

I think it's ment to be used on people who have had a bad reaction to ga and are not able to have it done that way.
I'm sure intense fear would also count x

Sorry Boney , hadn't been online for a bit , I was offered either local or ga but was advised due to recovery , local had less down time . I've had a ga before so it didn't concern me but I was more impressed with the idea of a quicker recovery time .x
