Band size, confused!
Hi ladies, I have been wearing a 36a for the past 3 years since I finished breast feeding my youngest little girl due to the loss of oomph in my boobs. I am hoping to book my op for the beginning of April after I have had my final consultation next week. I have been doing as much research as I can and been avidly reading as much as I can on here, and I found the posts about bra sizes and how measuring has changed. I decided to measure my band size and I am now confused. My band size is 30.5 so I assume I should be wearing a 32 and not a 36 but I have tried a 34A in the past and could not do it up so there is no way I could fit in a 32A. When I saw Mr. Payne he did say there was no way I was a 36 before I even took my top off for him to have a look. Confused.com.

Hey. Im pre ba but the only advice I can give is to go to a undies store like bravissimo beau avenue. They'll be able to give you the correct size which you should be wearing x

Re: Band size, confused!
Boux avenue is where I've been! And they're quite accurate, maybe a cup size bigger than some brands but quite accurate. X
I found I was wearing the wrong band and I was shocked! Not a 34b, a 32dd!! X I thought boob spillage was normal jeeeze x

Re: Band size, confused!
You sound like if you have measured your band at 32"... You probably need to therefore go up in the cup size.
There are some excellent links on the forum for measuring yourself at home.
Or as suggested go to a lingerie store, or perhaps a John Lewis where they will be happy to measure you.

Re: Band size, confused!
If you've been wearing a 36A and the cup fits. if you went down a band size you'd be a 34B and if you went down to a 32 band size you might find the 32C would be better.
When you wear a bra do you wear it on the tightest fitting or the loosest? Bras should be worn on the loosest fitting then as the bra loses it's elasticity with age you use the next setting. The girls are right though it's always best to get fitted properly.

Hi huni, as other have said pop along to your nearest store and get yourself measured .
Bras are worn on the first fastening so when washed/ worn and elastic stretches you can tighten it up by moving to the next fastening, if you measure 30.5 you should be a 32 band some bras can come up a little small though, the band should never be too tight that it is uncomfortable . XXX

Re: Band size, confused!
Bra sizings can be the most difficult thing to get you head around especially when there are two ways to measure. I believe the older version makes you add 4 inches to an odd number and 5 for an even number or something like that. However since this was introduced many many years ago materials have changed, the old fashioned material was rigid with hardly any give so the +4 or +5 method worked. Now we have stretchy elastic the old version just doesn't work, so measuring the underbust you stay as close to the size as possible, so for a 29 I'd say you should be a 30 band but if you find you have a lot of flesh around your ribs you may find a 30 band uncomfortable and in that case should probably go for a 32.
I made a guide with pictures on my website here which shows things a little better.

Re: Band size, confused!
The +4/5 method is so outdated, and often used to fudge the measurements so that the stores can stock a smaller range of sizes. What you measure is what you are. And you should always be wearing it new on the loosest hook, so that as it gets older and stretched you can tighten it.
I was in 36As pre op. Should have been in 32s. we hear it so often.

Re: Band size, confused!
The cup fits well on the 36A but I always wear my bras on the tightest fitting, I will go and get fitted properly to get my correct size, even though it will be changing again in April when I have my op.misf1 wrote:If you've been wearing a 36A and the cup fits. if you went down a band size you'd be a 34B and if you went down to a 32 band size you might find the 32C would be better.

Re: Band size, confused!
The website link is amazing. I just measured myself using the instructions on there, and according to that I am a 32DD!! as I have 5 inches difference between the 2 measurements. That is crazy. I am going to pop into Asda tomorrow and grab some bras and have a mass try on in the changing rooms to see. xx

I'm 32DD in boux avenue, but I think I may be a 32D in others, and so it's a D/DD. Lol, confusing! Why can't there be a standardised bra sizing for every brand!?
