How do I compare BAAPS surgeons?
Hey ladies, as the title suggests I am hoping to see 1 or 2 BAAPS surgeons , there are several in my area and I'm struggling to decide who to see. With the private consultation fees I want to choose carefully . Is there any way I can check things like number of BA performed & "redo"
One of the surgeons I've been looking at Simon Knight states he is member of BAAPS on his website but I can find him listed on the BAAPS site xx

Re: How do I compare BAAPS surgeons?
Hi Princess Gem,
Surgeons who are members of BAPRAS and BAPPS receive a compulsory audit. Now, i don't believe there is a central location where you can compare and contrast surgeons results, but you will be able to request this information from the surgeon - how many ops, rate of re-do, rate of infection etc. My surgeon provided this to me. Perhaps phone the clinics and ask them before booking the consultation?
There does appear to be some confusion regarding some surgeons saying they are a member of BAAPs, but then not being on the website. Personally, i would question this - particularly if it is important to you that they are a BAAPs member. You can phone up to check this (number on their website)...but if they are a member of BAAPs, they should be displayed there!
I recall from your previous posts, that you may not require a 'straight forward' BA. Ideally you need to find a BAAPs surgeon who is experienced in breast lifts with implants (if that is what you require). Although all BAAPs surgeons are highly experienced, they still have distinct areas of expertise....mine for example had performed a lot of surgery on tuberous breasts. Did you speak to Mybreast about a second consultation included in the £25 fee? If you explain what the surgeon said, they may have another on their books they would feel would be suitable?
Good luck and have a lovely christmas xxxx

Re: How do I compare BAAPS surgeons?
Thanks missCET, I have tried calling My breast this morning but they are closed for Christmas but I will definitely try and get another consultation through them. I am shocked the PCC hasn't called me as she said she would call me the morning after the consultation to discuss and she hasn't.
Thanks for your advice re the comparisons, I will have a call round in the new year and see what information I can gain on each of the BAAPS surgeons near me before booking xxx

Re: How do I compare BAAPS surgeons?
If you can't find a surgeon listed on the BAAPS website then you can email BAAPS and ask if there's a reason they're not listed. If they aren't BAAPS surgeons you will be told and they'll be thankful to you for telling them about a non BAAPS members using the logo.
BAAPS surgeons will have worked within the NHS for at least 7 years as a consultant. They will also hold a FRCS qualification at the very least, these are compulsory before being able to be considered.
These surgeons are sort of 'cherry picked' the cream of the crop so to say... They need two sponsors to vouch for them. They then become 'trainee members' this does not mean they are a BAAPS member.
As a trainee member they are mentored by BAAPS members and trained to a top standard with knowledge of the latest techniques. When and if they're ready to become a full member, only then will their name be shown listed as a BAAPS member
Their training however doesn't stop there. They go on being tested throughout their membership to ensure they're up to date with the latest techniques and able to offer a good standard of surgery. So with a BAAPS member, you KNOW they're fully trained in this field as well experienced.
Do be careful when choosing surgeons from large clinics. We've found that their are some surgeons that nothing more than 'general surgeons' these surgeons have no training in plastic surgery, but because right now this 'business' is not yet regulated there are no laws to say they can't operate on you.
Sounds babe that doesn't it. I mean if you had a heart attack you'd have a heart specialist do your surgery.... Yet, to change the shape of your body, its legal to allow any surgeon with no experience to operate on you.
This is why the GMC register is so important if you're not using a BAAPS member. With BAAPS you have that assurance, but if not, its important to check and the GMC register will show if they're on the 'specialist register for plastic surgery' this is what you need to look for if not using a BAAPS surgeon.
If your surgery is technical, looking for a surgeon who is also qualified on reconstruction is a good thing to look for and BAPRAS is another good place to look for a surgeon. Xx

Re: How do I compare BAAPS surgeons?
Hun - it may be worth your while trying the clinics that use BAAPS reg surgeons - that way you can consult with as many PS as you like for the same price.
I know the consultation fees are high .. i had a budget for this - so what i did was use Spires and Mybreast and then i found a BAAPS reg surgeon also - Mr Sultan Hassan
with spires and mybreast - you can see as many surgeons as possible till you are happy ..
also here on this forum - look through the avis - most likely you will find the surgeons names / hosp etc ...
that way you can ask the ladies themself!
i was lucky to have Cookie - pin point my frustration from about d 2nd week of my consultations .. she helped me find my surgeon!!!
Now should i develop a complications (i am rest assured, i did my best and also picked out of the best)..
hun - have you started your diary? it could help you get some attention on the forum with your consultation and trust me ALL hands will come on deck to assist you!

Re: How do I compare BAAPS surgeons?
Thanks girls for your help not sure what I would if without this site! It's still confusing me a little, been looking at spire and Nuffield surgeons thinking they are ALL BAAPS but not necessarily the case so having to check the BAAPS/BAPRAS site and cross reference, also not sure whether it's better to approach a surgeon direct or go through spire/Nuffield/my breast ? Does it make a difference ? xxx

Re: How do I compare BAAPS surgeons?
I went through my surgeons own website, and got an appointment at Nuffield north staffordshire and I cannot fault them at all. Also if I have any problems I can just request an appointment with my surgeon and not pay any more money as covered by my aftercare. I know from other posts that if you get a problem and bolked through transform you don'tsee the surgeon just a nurse but if then the problem is more serious then you'll see your surgeon.
It's just passing the buck with the bigger clinics whereas with nuffield/spire you buold a rapport with your surgeon and they usually know what look you're wanting
