Post by Suziet 12th November 2013, 10:32 pm

Hello all,
Hoping for any tips on getting decent sleep post op! Have been feeling pretty good during the day following my BA a week ago but actually dread going to bed now as I always wake really uncomfortable :-( Normally I sleep like a log. I've been having pain killers at bedtime but overnight am so achey, sometimes in pain. I've been propping myself up at night, sleeping my on back, is this the best way?
Thanks

Hiya

I have a bad back normally so the sleeping was something I was dreading but I think I cracked it - this is what I do and I've slept really well since my ba

2 pillows flat then a v pillow then a pillow on the bottom and one on the top so it's like a propped up position then another two pillows one on top and one on the bottom then two under your knees and one under your bum. So 9 pillows plus a v pillow but it's worked really well for me!

Good luck!

X

Yes you don't need to be sleeping in a sitting position, your head and shoulders only need to be above chest level so an extra pillow is fine...
At night I struggled a bit aswell because your alert to the sounds and odd pains... I woke up in the middle of the night aswell... It wasn't nice but I made sure that I took a pain killer if I needed it and that lasted until night 5 as I had back ache too... The extra pillow I'm the small of your back really helped me get to sleep and another by my shoulders blades so just play around and test out how you feel comfortable...
It will go though soon and your be sleeping well again xx

You've just got to play around with it until you find whats most comfortable for you. I literally spent an hour one night making my hubby rearrange me (patience of a saint, bless him) and ended up with a wedge of pillows and a travel pillow. Its hard, but, you should be able to go back to sleeping normally soon.

Awwww babe c'mere Hug

Sleep deprecation is awful and can really make such a big impact on how you feel through your recovery.

As the ladies have suggested. Using a pillow fort does seem the best way to get comfortable.

The pillow fort:

2 pillows and your V pillow behind your head (use one pillow if you'd prefer, it doesn't matter as long as your head and shoulders are raised above chest level)

A pillow under each of your arms to give them support

A pillow under your knees to take the pressure away from your back

A rolled towel placed in the small of your back

If you're suffering back pain a hot water bottle placed in the small of your back also. When your up and about be aware of hunching over. Its your body's natural instinct to do this after surgery but it can play havoc with your back so being aware if your posture and trying to stand/sit as straight as you can will help also.

I really hope you get a better nights sleep Susiet Hug

A good few weeks Hun, it's to help swelling go down and to not put any pressure on your new boobs, you won't be able to side sleep after a few days anyway as it'll be too uncomfortable! But yes just head and shoulders above chest height on a v pillow and pillow is perfect x

I'm dreading sleeping after my BA.. I've always slept on my side and even when ill, and when I had a back operation I still couldn't sleep upright or semi-upright.. I have 3 v pillows of my own already along with 6 normal ones and a pillow about 4ft long so I should be able to do something but whether i'll actually get to sleep is a diff story.. hopefully lots of codeine will help :D

V pillow and a pillow under the v pillow is amazing! So so so comfy. >_< I've been sleeping quite well since day 1 actually, just my cat has been annoying me and laying on my stomach (Making me want to pee!)
