Urine infection :-(
OMG!!! I woke up this morning and went to toilet and it burned when I peed.. I have no other symptoms like bacache or smelly pee..
Rung my GP and he thinks I have water infection.. got Trimethoprim 200 g antibiotic and need to take it for 3 days twice a day, which means that it should clear by Monday.
My op is on Tuesday morning..
Do you all think I will be fine?
I rang my PS's secreatry and she thinks that it should be fine but will ring my PS and cofirm this afternoon..
Has it happened to anyone else? I'm so upset!! I've planned this op for so long, have 3 weeks off at work.. Will I be OK for Tuesday?

Re: Urine infection :-(
Oh typical! things always happen like this before hand to add to the stress!
I think you will be fine! ive had them before and as soon as you start taking the medication it starts to feel better! for me it clears up in a day or so so don't worry!
also your PS secretary thinks it will be fine so unless you still have it in 2 days time then I don't think you need to worry as they do clear up fast! xx

Re: Urine infection :-(
Thanks for reassurance hun.
I have started researching internet and it says that some urine infections don't clear for a week!!!
But I caught it early, it only started yesterday evening and have taken first course of antibiotic an hour ago..
Hope my PS will agree with his secretary..
Secretary spoke to anaesthetist and he told her it will be fine but she said that ultimate decision is taken by my PS xx

Re: Urine infection :-(
Yes sassy's advice is perfect! I do think your be fine because they clear up pretty soon ... The cranberry juice really does work wonders! It's a bit weird because obviously you will be weeing more drinking water but it flushes through :)
Try to eat little and often so you don't get ill though and at least you will be finishing your period by your day! Xx

Re: Urine infection :-(
You need to eat, like Jen said even if it's just little and often, be it soup, your fave foods, whatever you can. Your body needs energy to fight to infection darling.
Keep up the cranberry but try get some water in as well xx

Re: Urine infection :-(
I used to suffer badly from those, so hope you get better asap!!. But do not drink lots of cranberry juice too near your operation day as it's a big blood thinner! ! I was warned as I used to drink it as a preventative for uti( as it stops bacteria sticking to the wall of the bladder) Xox

Oh god! I didn't know that! It's the obvious uti treatment!
Sweetie I imagine you'll be fine with just a 10% juice drink but perhaps move to water only xxx

Re: Urine infection :-(
So, My PS rang yesterday and said that if I have an infection or take antibiotics then I cannot have my op for 2 weeks :-( I only took 1 tablet of ant. and rang doctors who said that they did dip down test and i have no infection!!! I stopped the medicine and took urine sample to hospital to confirm that I have no infection. Results will be ready on Monday morning. But the lady who took y sample in laboratory says that by looking at it she can already tell that it is highly unlikely that I have any infection.
This morning it burned me only a little when I went to toilet (just towards the end). But if it is not urine infection, then what is it? I guess since I only took 1 tablet of ant. then if I have an infection it will get worse by tomorrow. Any suggestions?
I hope I will just be fine and can have my op on Tuesday.

Re: Urine infection :-(
I have had similar experiences. Apparently in early 20's alot of women suffer from repeat infections for about a year then it can just go. That happened to me, but now touch wood they have been gone for years. Bladder infections, cystitis all the same thing, can be lower or higher infection. When they did the dip test (dont at the docs not the lab, its a piece of litmus style paper they use to detect white blood cells and presence of blood) on me it showed white blood cells, however after the lab it showed no significant growth. But; I have worked in the lab and processed such tests and if its below a certain growth it can still be an infection but as not sig enough growth wont be classed as an infection. This can be due to the fact that if you catch it early there are not enough bacteria yet present. I DEFINETLY had uti's, yet my urine tests from the lab showed otherwise. I think us girls who have suffered from them know when we have a UTI/bladder infection, which is why now docs prescribe anti-biotics straight away rather than wait for results. Most UTI's will pass without intervention, however I hated them so much it was the one thing that made me go running to the docs for the antibiotics. Just make sure it does pass as if it goes to the kidneys it can get very nasty, but if its improving that wont be down to just one antibiotic and so sounds like you will be ok

Re: Urine infection :-(
Great advice Michelle :) I had them too on and off for a while and hated it! The continuous feeling of needing a wee! Even a year on I still can't go to bed without ensuring I don't need to go and it's a mental thing now xx

Re: Urine infection :-(
So many girls suffer from them, they are horrid; they can cause depression, sickness and extreme fatigue too, not just pain and peeing which is bad enough as well, ive always said id prefer a cold!!! With a bladder infection which didnt go I ended up in a coma from it spreading to a kidney infection which caused continuous seizures, very nasty :nope:A kidney infection is when a bladder infection spreads to the kidneys, which is why it is so important to make sure any bladder/urine infections go, as kindney infections can cause hospital visits, like for you Tink, and permanent scarring of the kidneys!!!
Things like douching and soaps can cause them, as well as any rough sex. However, some women are just more prone to them and also more 'delicate' so even just normal non rough sex can cause a uti. Alot of mine were for this reason (not rough just cause it caused abit of 'trauma' down there which allows bacteria to more easily spread up through the tubes) and so after any 'fun' I take a very low dose antibiotic. Not every time, only when I feel like it might be needed.
Hope your feeling better blondie!!! Staying away from acid fruits and veg (such as tomatoes) will help to reduce the acidity of your urine which will be highly acidic hence the stinging, so should help the stinging too.

Re: Urine infection :-(
Yea it is really tink, you can build up a bit of resistance to them..
Hope your infections clearing Hun, make sure your drinking plenty of fluids, when I suffer with stinging when I pee I took a pint of cold water to the loo with me and just as you finish peeing pour cold water down your lady bits to help with the stinging. And take paracetamol if your allowed to pre op.
If you can't drink too much cranberry boots do a sachet of cranberry crystals specifically for cystitis, maybe you could get them, you just dissolve them in water.
I've never tried it but puttin natural yogurt down there is meant to help too so I've been tilde, though I don't know how effective that is

Re: Urine infection :-(
It can be as your body can build up immunity to them - but it's not uncommon for GP's to issue repeat perscriptions for a/b's if you are prone to certain infections xx

Re: Urine infection :-(
Thanks for replies girls. Well, I drink a lot and it seems that it almost went today.. My mum thinks that possibly it wasn't infection?? At GP they did 2 dip tests on Friday and they were both clear.. When I took my ursine sample to hospital that night the lady who took it said that looking at my sample she thinks that there's no infection but tomorrow I will get the results.. All i can say is that my only symptom was stinging pee.. No need to go often to toilet, no smelly pee.. Do u think it could have been something else than infection and I can go ahead with the op?
I guess the lab results will definitely show whether I have had an infection since it started the night before so 24 hours later the infection should show????
