Alternatives to Macom
I have bought a second hand Macom off Ebay (pretty sure it was second hand to that person too as its bobbly!!)
I have also bought an M & S zip up sports bra but what other alternatives would you recommend please? Are other post surgery bras ok as long as they are non-wired?
Also, what will I need in my hospital bag please?

Re: Alternatives to Macom
Most are ok but cheaper ones from eg asda arnt really going to give you the support you need... The Macom is recommended highly for a reason so i would stick with what you have... You won't know what size your going to be afterwards unless you buy a few and keep the tags on... Shock absorber? Although some can be pricey it's worth it for your new boobs and recovery, and even after the 6 weeks you may still want to sleep in it or after your home from work...
Hospital bag:' slippers, robe, toiletries, easy clothes to come home in, maybe flip flops, picky bits incase your hungry throughout the night and entertainment like your phone/ mags but you might not really use them! And sports bras of course xx

I'd say stick with what you've got for now as you don't know what size you're going to be. Once you've settled down and have an idea on your size you could buy something else then. I've apparently got to wear a binder for a week afterwards then bra after that. I've got one Macom but I'm wondering whether to buy another one?
Thanks for the list of hospital bits Jen. I was wondering what I should pack. Think I'll start to get stuff a bit more organised later this week.x

Re: Alternatives to Macom
Any HIGH IMPACT sports bra so shock absorber or triumph extreme. Asda, primark and tesco ones are not very supportive.
You're going to be in it for 6-12 weeks day and night so you need a supportive one.
You can buy brand new shock absorbers on eBay for as little as 4.99 to around 13. Pounds. X

Re: Alternatives to Macom
I used the M&S bras exclusively for the first few weeks and I am still using them now as my night time bras.
If you are staying in overnight or have a long car journey you may want to take a v-pillow with you x

Re: Alternatives to Macom
In addition to a front fastening bra I would always advise you buy a back fastener too. You can never guarantee how much swelling you're going to have around the band and with front fasteners you're very limited with how wide they'll go for you and the very last thing you're going to want is to feel uncomfortable during your recovery.
So I'd recommend a back fastening bra in your band size and the estimated cup size your surgeon has guesstimated for you. The most popular back fasteners which are excellent bras are the Triumph Triaction Extreme and The Shock Absorber. For budget back fasteners M&S do a 2 pack of high impact sportsbras for £25, these too are excellent sportsbras.
If you leave the tags on and keep the receipts, if you have no need for them you will be able to return them.
In addition to the back fastening bras, buy some bra extenders. These can be bought for a couple of pound through Amazon. If you do have extensive swelling then the back fastener and the extenders will be soooooo much of a relief babe. Xx

Re: Alternatives to Macom
If you will spend the night in hospital bring some kind of snack as well.
I couldn't sleep all night after surgery and was so hungry and didn't want to call the nurse in the middle of the night. My husband had left a energy bar on my bedside table which made me really happy when I found it.
