Surgeons Credentials
A quick note....
Just thought I'd ask, when looking into surgeons ideally what credentials do you girls look for?
I know having someone with BAAPS and BAPARS are a great start but what other qualifications are good for a surgeon to have?
Would you only consider BAAPS registered??

Re: Surgeons Credentials
Baaps and bapras surgeons are the best you can get , they are at the top if their game ... So you should look to see at least one (through places like mybreast or spire)
However not everyone clicks or feels comfortable with who they meet so it's not essential to have that extra qualification as long as your comfortable with the surgeon and have researched them then it's your own journey , also check they are on the gmc register xx

Re: Surgeons Credentials
For me personally with the experience I have under my belt - its BAAPS/BAPRAS all the way hun.
However, there are some that are happy with surgeons who aren't members of those associations... The least you want to look for in a surgeon is that they're on the specialist register for plastic surgery when you look them up on the GMC register hun. X

3rd one - GMC Reg, Specialist reg in plastic 2004, BAAPS/BAPRAS
4th one - GMC Reg, Specialist reg in plastic 2008 No BAAPS/BAPRAS Reg found

Re: Surgeons Credentials
How did you feel with the 3rd? If you liked them, it's a no brainer as far as I am concerned.
It's great you have the choice, and also that you have been to see several surgeons, good luck with your choice x

Re: Surgeons Credentials
Ive still got a couple more to go see, I liked the third but felt the consult was short and they gave me no information to go home and mull over just a business card with the price scribbled on, felt a little let down about that...

Re: Surgeons Credentials
Personally for me I wanted them to be BAAPS and BAPRAS registered, so only looked at those surgeons... But lots of other girls are happy going for surgeons who aren't and are really pleased... So it's personal preference I guess.
Was your consult with the 3rd 1 a full consultation? As I had a free 'mini' consultation with my surgeon & that was obviously brief & I was only given a business card too.. And later received a letter through post. But I guess when I go for a full consultation I will get a lot more information x

Well that's the thing, it was brief and I'd actually paid for this consult so not really sure what to make of it....
Think I may go back to see them a second time...
thanks girls

Re: Surgeons Credentials
If I remember right that surgeon was seen through MyBreast wasn't he? Have to say, I've just used that surgeon myself and the attentively to detail from surgery through aftercare has been like nothing I've experienced from the large commercial clinic I used before hun.. But anyway, if that surgeons not for you... He's not for you. I'm sure though that for the price you paid for the consultation you can see more than one surgeon at that clinic (ALL MyBreasts surgeons are BAAPS members) so it may be worth your while calling and questioning that babe.
I'd DEFINITELY rule out the first though. Xx

Re: Surgeons Credentials
Out of interest what does a surgeon need to do to get on the Baaps register?
I've got a friend who had her surgery with a registered surgeon, apparently at the top of their game, but she's a tiny size 8, absolutely no breast tissue and was advised overs and has been left with round looking odd shape boobs!
I definitely agree with you Jen. Definitely worth doing lots of research but you have to feel comfortable with the one you choose. You need to make sure you're both singing from the same hymn sheet before you go under the knife. Otherwise you might end up with something other than what you set out to achieve.x

Re: Surgeons Credentials
Thanks Cookie!!
You'll be pleased to know I've called the clinic for the first and told them I will not be having BA there. Not liking his credentials and he wanted me to have 525 unders, I feel that's just a little to big for what I'm after, starting to think im more comfortable within the 385cc-410cc, overs bracket currently too.... but going to have a little play around with rice test soon!!
Yes that's right the third was through My Breast, although I think a PCC type person from there has tried to contact me today, will ring her back tomorrow, maybe she can provide me with the paperwork I'm after.

Re: Surgeons Credentials
found this on the BAAPS website -
Fully Trained
BAAPS Members are fully trained Plastic Surgeons. They have undergone a rigorous training programme. Currently this involves six years training in recognised training centres, undergoing regular assessment and examinations. They are taught cosmetic surgery in lectures, tutorials, courses and by demonstration. They are assisted in their early operations by experienced surgeons.
So I'm assuming from this there is more training involved...

Re: Surgeons Credentials
Absolutely. They also are continuously assessed whilst members of BAAPS to ensure they are updated with all the latest techniques and to ensure they're still up to standard also. Xx
Re: Surgeons Credentials
MyBreast don't have PCCs babe. It most likely be the surgeons secretary. Xxcharliee151 wrote:Thanks Cookie!!

Re: Surgeons Credentials
Ah right, well will have to give her a call, perhaps another consultations needed, as now I've found this forum and from having other consults I am thinking a lot may have gone over my head and have a lot more questions to ask, which I think is probably better aimed at the surgeon and not his sec.

Re: Surgeons Credentials
They have to have at least a FRCS qualification which is the highest qualification you can get in general surgery and be on the specialist register for plastic surgery. Applying to BAAPS shows you have a specialised interest in breasts, but applying to BAAPS isn't an automatic admission. They have to have two BAAPS members backing them to vote them in and then they will start a training schedule... For example Mr Hassan is a trainee in BAAPS, he's not yet a BAAPS members, but is doing all the training in the hope he's found worthy to become a full member. If they do become a full BAAPS members they continue with training and getting tested throughout their membership to ensure you're getting as a patient the very best that this specialised surgery can offer. Its reassuring to know that its something they have had to work for, and have backing of other credited individuals!!!

Re: Surgeons Credentials
My surgeon is BAAPS/ BAPRAS , he was the very first one I saw out of 4 and my first consult seemed rushed, i think they can sometimes just have that "doctor" manner where they rattle things off as they say them so many times lol! However, he did say i could go back and see him as many times as i wanted before making a decision , without paying any more, and he came highly recommended so i went back a couple more times. So if it seemed rushed, i would defo go back and see them again, as well as another baaps one x

Re: Surgeons Credentials
Ive got another two BAAPS reg that im hoping to see, got some more phone calls to make tomorrow, need to know how much consultations would be with them. So fingers crossed I will have something to compare with, I don't feel I've seen enough surgeons at the minute to make a complete decision..
