Post by japearse 2nd August 2013, 8:49 am

Would someone allow me to see pics of their breast reduction from just after surgery to when healed. I've booked my surgery for 30th sept and would really like to have as much info as possible.

So I had my second consultation with Dr Quaba this morning and I took my husband to meet him. Husband was very impressed and I have made the decision to go ahead with the breast reduction. D Day is the 30th Sept.......really scared but I know I will be sooo happy afterwards.

I'm going to have a reduction and lipo on the sides and hopefully going from a 30JJ/K to a C cup (no guarantees apparently it could be a D cup which would upset me as I want them as small as possible). Please can you tell me your experiences about aftercare and any tips.

Where is the best place to get a bra without underwire after surgery?

How do I know what size to get?

What are the best creams for massage after surgery to help with scarring?

How do I help the puckering?

Anything else that I should know or do either before the surgery or after?

Thank you all so much.

You're going to be in a support bra for at least 6 weeks babe. Many women use opt for a Macom bra which I feel may be the best option for you given how with a breast reduction its more difficult to determine the resulting size. A Macom is bought by your band size only and the cups are created to fit and support all.

If you go to the Macom website and type in as the promotion code "MyBreast" then you will recieve 15% off the price of the bra.

Japearse wrote:How do I know what size to get?

If you're buying the Macom, you don't need a cupsize, simply buy it based on your band size only.

Japearse wrote:What are the best creams for massage after surgery to help with scarring?

I'd start now by moisturising your skin in preparation for the surgery to ensure your skin in the best condition possible with a good moisturiser, I swear by palmers cocoa butter. I buy the unscented because I can't stand the scented one lol. This is going to help get your skin nice and supple and ready for surgery.

After surgery... Its up to you, you can continue with the cocoa nut butter 'when you get the all clear from your surgeon' or you can buy some bio-oil which is an oil created to help make scars lighter. Its not worth paying out a lot of money on the expensive scar treatments unless you have problems with your scars. If your scars are healing well, then the massage alone is all that's needed to help break down that scar tissue.

Japearse wrote:How do I help the puckering?

Massage. After around 6 weeks you will get the all clear from your surgeon to massage your scars. By using the flats of your fingertips to apply pressure to the scars, using firm circular motions, this will help with the puckering. The puckering can though take a few months to settle down.

Buy yourself a V-pillow (you can get these cheap in Argos) and Reuseable Icepacks (you can get these in Wilkinsons or from Amazon) these are going to be your two best friends post-op.

Preparation is what's going to help you most hun.

Preparing frozen meals in advance so you don't have to cook for a few weeks is going to help lots.

Sorting out any comfortable lounge wear you have. Anything that's easy to get on such as button or zip up front tops (you're not going to be able to get things over head) baggy vests you can step into. Leggings, or jogging pants. The more comfortable the clothes, the easier for you and the more comfy you'll be. Placing them in an accessible place is also going to help. Even just pulling out a draw is going to be chore, so having everything at hand level so you can just pick it up and put it on is going to help you.

If you've any bills you've got to go out and pay, or any shopping that needs doing, do all of that before your op. you really want to have everything out of the way so you have no worries at all.

If you have children, you're going to need to sort child care out for them for about 2 weeks if you have any babies. A week if you have children that can do things for themself.

If you have a dog that needs to walking, you're not going to be able to do this yourself so if there's no-one in the family to walk them you may want to arrange for a dog walker.

Get yourself some entertainment ready. Its going to be very boring once the initial recovery is over, so books, DVDs, recording any films you might want to watch will all be a good idea to get sorted out for yourself.

I think that's about it babe. Xx

You are a total star-thank you. I'm am very lucky that I won't have to do a thing as my husband will be at home looking after me. So he will cook, walk the dog, pander to my every whim (hopefully) And my daughter is at Uni near me so i dont need to worry about her and if necessary I can get her to drive me around if husband is out.

I have just ordered the macom bras, I already have bio oil
In the house and like you I hate the smell of the palmers cocoa butter but I will get the Unscented.

Thank you for all of this info. I'm the type of person that needs all info beforehand so that I can be organised and not panic too much.

I'm the same hun... With this type of surgery thou, being that type of person who is organised will help lots. The more prep you do pre-op, the better for you post-op.

Its good you have your hubby there to look after you. I was fortunate to have mine with me too and it really makes all the difference having someone there you can depend on. Xx

Hey Japearse,

I cannot add anything to what Cookie has said in terms of advice; partly because I'm a total newbie to all of this myself and -  unlike you - didn't find this site until after my surgery  , but mostly because Cookie is a total star and has covered everything so well.

I wanted to say congratulations on booking your surgery clap hands clap hands clap hands and to wish you every luck with it.

I had a small reduction on my right side and can absolutely confirm reduction is much more 'major' surgery than a lift without (right breast is much more tender and sore than left).

I saw you were asking to see photos of reduction.  I haven't had the same op as you are planning and I am only a week post op (so cannot show you anything like final results/healed) but if nobody else is able to show you theres you can access my blog (with lots of photos - should give you some sense of bruising/wounds to expect ?? by clicking on the weblink under my avatar).

Zoe,

Thank you for your reply. I am amazed at how lovely everyone on this site seems to be.  So supportive and helpful.as you will have read, I'm terrified.  I'm not great with pain (actually my pain threshold is non existent) so this is probably one of my greatest fears - along with infection, losing the nipples, and on and on. But I'm so fed up with my huge breasts and all that they entail that I'm going to grit my teeth.

I have no idea what I'm going to look like after the op and I don't want to be frightened or horrified so I thought that if I saw pics then I could get used to it before seeing myself for the first time after op. I will def have a look at your photos.

I hope that you are happy with your surgery and that you are healing well and out of pain.
Thanks again. Julie-Anne xxx

Hey Julie-Anne :)

Regarding pain - although I'm not going to tell you there is none - if you take pain relief all is fine (I chose not to except on days when it was significant: i.e. the day after op and today).

As far as weight loss is concerned I stopped eating refined carbohydrates (carbohydrate basically means sugar).  To lose weight I ate a high protein, low carb diet (lots of meat, fish, seafood, cheese, salad, veggies and a few nuts).  I didn't eat anything made with sugar or flour; nor root vegetables or fruit; no sugary drinks (inc. alcohol) and I avoided too much milk (Lactose is basically sugar - anything ending ending in 'ose' is: sucrose, fructose, lactose etc.).

Now I'm "maintaining" I allow myself more carbohydrate (although I try to stick to complex ones) and if I put on a few pounds I nip it in the bud and go strictly low carb for a couple of weeks.

Pre-op I put on a few pounds (so cross with myself as I'd planned to do the opposite!) by eating naughty stuff like ice cream, crisps, bread and sweets.  Two days before my op I instigated high protein, low carb diet (strict enough to induce ketosis) and since then I've lost 10lbs :)

Many people find totally cutting out refined carbs is too difficult (I find it easier than any other form of diet intending to reduce weight) but cutting back will always benefit.

HTH

Hi Elizabeth,

I think that it was me that Cookie was talking about. I am having breast reduction at the end of Sept and I want to find out exactly whats involved from someone who has gone through it.I dont want to be shocked at the sight of my boobs after surgery and I want an honest opinion regarding the pain and maintenance afterwards. Would you be prepared to let me see pics of after surgery and the healing process? Thank you so much.
