pain with unders - tip of the iceberg?
So I had a heavy chest work out at the gym yesterday and am suffering today. Changing gear in the car, opening the dishwasher, carrying shopping....All hurt! I think I generally have a high pain threshold, but it did get me thinking is this just the tip of the iceberg with pain post op?! It's making me wince the thought of my surgeon cutting that muscle and shoving an implant Underneath the way my pecs feel right Now!!

Unders pain will be worse than pulled muscles from a chest work out xx

It's just the tip of the iceberg then!!! I've been worried about working out my chest as don't want my chest muscles any tighter than they are!!! My surgeon said not to worry though but I still am!!!
Off to my last Pilates in morning for a while! I'm hoping to strengthen my stomach muscles this week in prep! Xxx

Re: pain with unders - tip of the iceberg?
Pain levels vary patient to patient hun, so although some may suffer some discomfort early post-op we have many ladies here who have breezed through their surgery with partials and said they were surprised how great they were after all they'd read.
So think positive hun! Even the worst discomfort is nothing at all you aren't going to be able to manage. You'll be just fine. Xx

Re: pain with unders - tip of the iceberg?
Ladies I was terrified of the recovery with unders! But can honestly say it has been no where near as bad as I had imagined.
In fact it's the stitches that have played me up the worst :(
What I have notice though is a weakness when trying to open jars, packets etc I don't push it, just get someone else to do it for me :)

Everyone is different hun! I had unders and had no pain at all!! Just a slight tugging if I tried to open heavy doors etc. I didn't take any pain relief other than what I had whilst in hospital, so don't get too worried. Even if you do get pain, you will have some fairly strong pain killers given to you On Discharge xx

I've stopped my chest workouts too specialkj for the same reason as you
I've just been doing my legs and stomach. I'm dreading afterwards, it must be really uncomfortable doing chest work outs with implants under them xx

Are we actually going to be able to do chest workouts! I am scared of distorting them!
I think I will try avoid specifically working chest area and do other stuff and inadvertently the chest will still get worked out!
I am dreading what is going to happen to my bum and thighs with no working out! Been living the trampoline at home with kids lately, won't be able to do that for a while xxx

I'm not sure if we are allowed to or not Hun. I would have thought small weights would have been ok, I remember reading on the net that implants under the muscle restrict your chest muscles by x% but don't remember it saying you couldn't xx

Re: pain with unders - tip of the iceberg?
Thanks for the link :)
I did go over this a lot with my surgeon, as I don't want my current lifestyle to be restricted by having implants, and like to train. He assured me u deserve was still best for me, that he had put implants in a lot of professional sports women. He said, yes you can get some distortion when working out but that only a trained eye would see it.
I will Defo lay off upper body weights for a couple if months post op though while rdvoveting

Yes and then just ease back in gently and see how you feel, I'm going to take it easy and see what happens. I suppose it will be a case of listen to your body x

I am having partials too...in fact when most people say they are having unders, are most actually having partials? do many people go fully under the muscle?

Only those that are having reconstruction work, for example after a mastectomy will have full unders.
For a general BA with no complications you'd have either overs or partials. Xx

Re: pain with unders - tip of the iceberg?
I am worried about training my chest too. I am going to stop exercising my chest about 4 weeks before, as it's pretty tight due to years of gym effort trying to perk them up! Then I think I will be too scared of ruining them to do any serious chest stuff for at least 3 months. What does it feel like when you start to train again with unders?

Yeah I think they are the same - top of the implant goes under the muscle :)
