Day 5 Post op - Midgiebites
Hi ladies! Hope you are all having a lovely weekend.
Sorry I haven't been around much the last 2 days, been feeling very sorry for myself. Friday (day 3 post op) i went and got my hair blow dried at the hairdressers and it totally wiped me out. I felt terrible and thought I was going to pass out, so the hour it took to get to the salon, get hair washed and dried and get home resulted in me going to bed and sleeping for 4 hours (so my hair looked like a birds nest again - I am sweating like nothing on earth when sleeping?! Think its the thigh high ted stockings). I decided to stop taking dihydracodeine and ibuprofen as maybe they were making me feel so ill. Not in a lot of pain, just uncomfortable and SO tight, struggle to take a proper breath in. Think I uploaded day 3 pics to picturetrail.
Yesterday (day 4 post op) I got up and a was a bit sore. Checked the goods out in the mirror and the swelling in the right breast has gone down a bit, however, the bruising has now come out. I can see the bruising under my tegaderm dressing to the wound incisions - worse on the right side also my ribs on my right side are black and blue?! Felt stiff and stuck to paracetamol all day, went a run in the car with hubby and kids - was a bit uncomfortable but bearable. Hubby struggling a bit having to look after the little ones (now he knows what i deal with day in day out lol). Came home, slept for 2 hours, had chinese for dinner, managed to hang up a load of washing and put another load on, then went back to bed. No pictures yesterday.
Today (day 5 post op) I am just up and had breakfast, feeling good to be honest, no painkillers yet. Not had my bath yet this morning, but will do some pics after that. Had paracetamol during the night because I was quite uncomfortable. Really struggling to sleep propped up, getting sore and uncomfortable, also experiencing "morning boob" and pain in the tops of my arms when I move during the night? Hubby away to the golf this morning (so he was in a better mood). My littlest baby is away to his grannies house as I still dont feel able to pick him up or carry him. My little girl is 3 and a 1/2 so she has stayed with me. Going to have a girly morning - paint her nails and dress her up missing being a proper mummy. Have my appointment on Wed to get my dressings changed
Think thats everything, sorry for the long post, just wanted to update everyone. If I've forgot anything I'll add it in. xxx

Thanks Emily :flowers: July tomorrow, your BA will be here before we know it!! So exciting xxx
Zoe, you being sick is probably your bodies way of telling you to slow down a bit. I've not actually been sick, but not been far from it at times. Do you have a bath rather than a shower? I am allowed to shower but prefer to bath because I get a bit light headed standing in the heat. I have a bath (waist height) and wash all bottom half, then sponge wash the top half. Went to hairdresser to wash and dry hair because I don't think I could hold my arms over my head to wash and dry. I am glad you have some help with your little princess, you don't realise how much we take everything for granted until we can't do it xxx

Re: Day 5 Post op - Midgiebites
Ohhhh hun, you couldn't have chosen a worse day to get your hair done! Day 3 is generally the worst day. Its the day when the most of your swelling kicks in and you just feel like you said... Pretty rubbish really
The discomfort in your arms whist sleeping, can be resolved with a pillow placed under each one to help support them babe. A pillow under your knees too is also going to help take some of that pressure off your back and a rolled towel in the small of your back helps too.
If you're sleeping 'sat up' hun, then there's no need. Lower yourself down so that just your head and shoulders are raised higher then your chest. This is all that's necessary babe.
As hard as it is watching hubby with the kids, you just have to close your eyes to it and leave him to get on with it babe. He WILL manage, but if you help him. He'll come to EXPECT that help and before you know it you'll be doing it all all. That's just how guys are.
Whilst you're in so much discomfort - STUFF THE WASHING! If it needs doing your hubby can do it hun. You're in no fit state right now to be doing ANYTHING except taking gentle walks to help build your strength back up.
Honestly babe, if you do too much, you risk putting your recovery all the way back... Or worst, you could result in a complication that requires surgical intervention and I'm sure your hubby wouldn't want that for you would he babe, so he does really need to be there for you ALL the time whilst you have small children around you.
Stopping the heavy meds will help you feel loads better and more like yourself babe. Don't worry about taking a bath or anything until you feel you're able to and definitely don't do that whilst you're on your on your own hun.
Its nice you're having a girly day with your daughter babe, but if at any point you don't feel able to cope PLEASE don't think anything of calling your husband home hun. Not just for your sake, but for your daughters too babe.
Sorry if that sounds dramatic, but its really not babes...you have just had major surgery sweetheart and really shouldn't be left on your own with small children so soon.
Really hoping you feel better soon
HUGS

Can I have a wee peek at your pics? would love to see Tamuir's work!
The 1st week is the worst after BA once you get through that you will be amazed at how much better you feel each day after, don't think you quite realise how little you can sometimes do post op especially with unders as just about every upper body movement involves using your pecs.Rest when your body tells you and it wont be long before your back to your old self again except with a cracking pair of new boobs that is...lol X

I hope you do let hubby read babe. Its not so much you that needs help right now its HIS children. YOU need rest and you can't do that with small demanding children around you. That's not fair to you and its not fair to his children.
Having 'major surgery' really takes its toll on your body and you need time to recover. At the very least for a week! But even after that you won't be doing much. You won't be hoovering, ironing or or anything else that's going to put stress on your upper body for 6 weeks.
You certainly aren't going to be able to lift your smaller baby for at least 2 weeks and even then you'll have to see how YOU feel.
Even though this is elective surgery, this is major surgery and things can and do go wrong!
I should do a sticky for people helping mums so they know just how much help mums need.... Maybe I will.
But if you're reading this Mr Midgiebites, please put your children first. They need you there to take care of them whilst your wife takes the rest wife needs. Xx

Re: Day 5 Post op - Midgiebites
Aww huni. X I know how hard it is being a mummy and having a BA! My older ones were great after surgery but my youngest was almost 2 and he just didn't understand. I told him mummy's boobies are ouchy, and he left them alone but he still wanted all the usual cuddles and carries and I just couldn't do it. I wasn't picking him up until week 5, I just couldn't manage it x I would definatly let you hubby read this, he has to understand that it is major surgery. And he helped make the children he can help look after them. After all he's gonna want a share of them boobies lol xx I hope you feel better soon xx
