Where do the drains go?
Hi everyone , just wondering where the drains are inserted post op, is it into the incisions and then when they take them out they stitch the holes up or am I wrong. I don't have a clue but want to be prepared because this is the bit I dread the most because your awake when they remove them! Thanks xx

Re: Where do the drains go?
You've nothing at all to worry about hun. Mine went in just at the end of the crease incision.
I followed the instructions given by the nurse and it was a strange sensation coming out but I felt no pain whatsoever. I just breathed deep,y in and out and the drain was out whilst I'm sat there like a weirdo still deep breathing, I didnt even know it was out lol.
There's no stitching at all involved after the drains come out. Just a dressing placed over and that's it! Nothing to it hun.
The only problem I had was.... Taking them with me to the loo! lol. X

No babe. Drains are used by surgeons preference. Some surgeons prefer the use of them after surgery, others don't., its as simple at that Victoria. Xx

Re: Where do the drains go?
Thanks cookie, So I'm getting myself worked up over nothing. I'm glad to hear its not as traumatic as I thought, I was thinking they'd remove them then stitch me up while i was awake, and having never had stitches anywhere (touch wood) I was dreading it. I'm not so worried about the actual op because I'll be asleep but being awake and knowing what's happening to me freaks me out the most, I'm a softy! Xx

I was really worried about this too Mrs B and asked the same question pre BA but thankfully I didn't even have drains so I was worrying for no reason!

You're not a softy. This sacred me too - very much! And I'd actually heard quite a few horror stories, which I realised after going through it myself were actually quite dramatised lol. The sensation is very strange, but not painful. There are a few girls that have experienced a little discomfort, but like I said, its over in seconds and all done. I actually never felt any pain at all.

Its simply a tube that is placed inside you, so the tube is simply pulled out and discarded hun. I didnt even see it. It chose to turn my head away, do the breathing deeply in and out as instructed and before I knew it it was out. I never looked back, just focused on getting my bra back on and everything was bagged when I turned around, so there was nothing at all to fear.
Re: Where do the drains go?
I was laughing when my drains were taken out! It's the weirdest feeling x not painful at all... I have a tiny little mark that you can only feel and not see where my drains were placed. Just to the side of my incisions. Xxxx as cookie said nothing to worry about x I was laughing x

Re: Where do the drains go?
i had drains but not where these ladies had theirs.. Mine were on the sides on my breasts - just had a TINY hole where they went in. For me, one side was fine coming out (they cut the stitch holding the tube there off) and then slowly pulled a rather long coiled tube out lol WEIRDEST FEELING!!!! but my left side was more stubborn and kinda got stuck so hurt a bit coming out.. the nurse had to tug quite hard to make it move. Its really nothing to worry about. Im very glad i got drains as it took lots of swelling and excess fluid away - as cookie said carrying them places was annoying though ha.
