Bath/shower with waterproof dressings
Sooo I've been given some waterproof dressings to put over my dressings, the lady said i could use them today and keep them on until i see James next Sat.
Has anyone used these? Can i actually fully submerge myself in the bath and soak my aching muscles or is it literally a quick jump in and out the shower job?
Id rather she'd said you can't wash at all but now I've got this option and im not smelling very fragrant...shall i just try it or leave it? Im a bit worried it'll hurt putting them on...pressure on incision or they won't be fully water proof

Have you had the go ahead for a shower then hun? If he's it's a quick shower or shallow bath and sponge wash top half , when I could shower I dried myself using a HAIRDRYER so I knew dressing was completely dry x

She said don't shower for a few days hun, I'd leave it til tomorrow if u was you, plus we've only got one set of dressings, to last shouldn't u do it in the middle? Are u def seeing james? He told me he wasn't in South West so I'd have to see a nurse x

Re: Bath/shower with waterproof dressings
Im seeing him next Sat as he's in clinic near me so im not travelling to your neck of the woods.
Yes the nurse handed me them and said "you can put these waterproof dressings on and have a bath/shower but wait until tomorrow (today), you can keep them on until you have your stitches removed"
Maybe just quick wash in the shower and back out is best as no one seems to know. I was too spaced out to ask her to clarify it x

Most girls are advised 5/7 days minimum for a shower x

Re: Bath/shower with waterproof dressings
The waterproof dressings will be fine for showering lovely, you don't need to have a quick shower, enjoy your shower hun. You wouldn't have been advised to be able to take one if it wasn't safe for you to do so.
I would advise against fully submerging your boobs hun, only because I've never yet heard if anyone who has the waterproof dressings being able to do so.
Enjoy your shower Dove. Its the best feeling ever after a BA

Re: Bath/shower with waterproof dressings
Girls,
I'm 16 days post op and the surgeon said I could shower today, whoooohooooooo!! After taking my dressings off at my PO check Tuesday he said all healing well and out some smaller little sticky strips over my scars (I had dissolvable stitches) he said take them off after the shower so I did. Now I feel really bare and that my scars are really vulnerable and may rub against my sports bras or pop open!
Is there any harm I'm using sterile gauze strips that my mum have me from her hospital to pad over the scars so they don't rub? Also I showered using shower gel and was careful not to rub any directly onto my incisions but some of the soapy water obviously ran over them, is this a problem? My surgeon said no baths covering my new boobs for a while but didn't state how long so ill just stick to showers.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated x xx x

Re: Bath/shower with waterproof dressings
no
they said dry them with the hairdryer on cool setting, they aren't due to be changed until next Saturday. if i lived closer they would have changed them for me but they just said "don't worry im sure it'll be fine"...not reassuring enough for me! will they be ok do you think? just worried about incisions and stitches x

Good , I think most of us have had to wait a week or more to have a shower anyway. Shallow baths are fine though hunny

Re: Bath/shower with waterproof dressings
I'd be having a word with your clinic about those dressings babe. If you were told you could shower and then you've have to go through all this due to the dressings being faulty possibly, or just not waterproofed at all!
Sorry you're been through this babe but glad you're all sorted now. The incisions will ease up hun, just take some painkillers whilst they're sore hun. Xx

Re: Bath/shower with waterproof dressings
i had terrible pain earlier so i put my macom on as suggested by James and now the pressures eased im ok, i think the incisions had obviously been agitated when my dressings were pulled off, the nurse said i had a stitch poking out on my sore breast and it looks very bruised. i think the support from the macom is helping as its taken the pressure off the stitches but my breasts have dropped really well not wearing the macom...they're balanced out cookie! x

Re: Bath/shower with waterproof dressings
is your mum not with you still?
after having my dressings changed one boob kept me up most the night, it was very painful on the incision line...the one with the stitch poking out and bruised. i don't feel too bad today, just a little achy.
how's your mobility? can you raise your arms? x
