revision surgery
I've had the go ahead for my revision surgery and the surgeon has said he'll do it free of charge. The problem is the fees for the hospital, anaesthetist and implants are costing £3000!!!!! Is this normal???? I had quite a shock.!

Re: revision surgery
Hi hi. Sorry to hear you have to have a re op, when did you have your original surgery? Doesn't seem right if it's covered in your aftercare? As for size that's not usually covered in aftercare but I think it's all at the discretion of the clinic as to if they include the implants due to unhappiness of size, as I say unhappiness of size is not covered by aftercare.
What was all the mix up int he first place as you would have had to sign to say you were happy with size before surgery which would have been discussed in depth at consulation?

Re: revision surgery
They didn't have the size I originally asked for. I asked for 320's and for some reason it wasn't written down? I ended up with 360's and told it wouldn't make that much difference? Turns out they are too big for my frame and my nipples are far too high! Gutted as it took me so long to decide to go for it...
Really upset about paying another £3000 on top of the £5000 I paid???

Re: revision surgery
So when did you have the op?
But did you agree to the size just before surgery as it would have all be written down in the consent form and you would have had to sign the consent form?
X
3000 does seem a bit steep

Re: revision surgery
And how long was your aftercare? And when did you first complain re. Complications and unhappy with size?
Sounds like you've fallen outside aftercare policy if they're charging you that much x

Re: revision surgery
Will have to check whatever paperwork I have. I told them within the first year I wasn't happy. But I gave them a chance to settle first. Gutted...

Re: revision surgery
That sounds ridiculously expensive! If the surgeon says you need the surgery then why are the implants not included? They didn't supply you with the correct size which is bad enough but did they expect you to just turn around and walk out? Your surgeon should have known if the implant would of been suitable for your stats so its their mess up.
Don't agree on the price hun until you've found your aftercare policy and looked through your paperwork x

Re: revision surgery
Hi Hun
Sorry about your problems. I had revision surgery 3 years after my original Surgery. I was quoted £1000 theatre costs which I refused to pay (they then tried to make me pay surgeons fee) I had no paperwork from them and they had none from me (I assume they chucked it) I refused to pay. Part of my problem was wrong size implants to and I was covered under the sales of goods act 1979 as they had made a mistake and provided goods which were not fit for purpose. Since they've admitted liability (do you have it in writing) all costs should be covered under the above act. They may just be being a little cheeky and trying for more cash :) it's business and a recession after all. I would send a letter (recorded delivery) explaining that they have admitted providing goods which are not fit for purpose and you are entitled to a replacement free of charge to provide you with what you paid for originally... If you call citizens advice thy can give you the actual wording mines on my laptop and can't remember, her from top of my head.

Re: revision surgery
Thanks. I had a look today for paperwork and there's nothing in there about aftercare? I have nothing in writing at all. Also, I agreed to the implants on the day. So, I think I'm screwed in every way!!!! But I think £3000 is such an awful lot of money!!!

Spire only offer one year free aftercare Donna, so once the year is over aside from your implant warranty you'd have to pay for the rest babe, so it was nice of your surgeon to agree to waive his fee for you lovely.
However...... If you feel the reason for the re-op is due to your surgeon not making the right decisions initially then you could always try going through Spires complaints procedure. They're a VERY reputable clinic so would hear your case and I think they put it to a board of surgeons to decide whether this is your surgeons fault or whether it was something that couldn't possibly be helped and is a complication beyond your surgeons control hun. Xx
Re: revision surgery
Hey hun I'm so sorry about your unhappiness. I don't want to be a pain, but would like to point out that the difference between 320s and 360s is less liquid than fills a shot glass!
so it's a really small difference you probably won't even notice.
however, it sounds from what you're saying that the nipples are too high, you may have bottomed out. this comes from the surgeon over-dissecting the pocket. I would DEFINITELY say this to them and try to get this covered under surgeon error!
even if you had 500s your nipples should be at the right height, love!

Re: revision surgery
I think that I bottomed out to be honest. I've been booked in for 25th April for re-op, so have a little while to get it sorted properly.
Also, my surgeons have stopped using spire, so I'm going to a new hospital??? All against me x

Hey Hun xx
Sorry to hear this xx
Did you voice your concerns from the start with your PS? I don't think I would be paying a single penny if you have bottomed out or have been unhappy with the result from the start xx

Re: revision surgery
From about 6 months in I mentioned I wasn't happy. Thought I needed to give everything a chance to settle. Both surgeons agree and say they not right! I may get my hubby in the case soon. He's got a way with words need to make sure he keeps his cool though x
