How long will I need off work?
I'm due to have my BA on the 30th March. I'm unsure how long I will need off work. I'm a nursing assistant and it can be heavy work. It involves a lot of heavy lifting. I'm going over the muscle. Thanks

I know they say no heaving lifting for 6 weeks. There's quite a few nurses on here who i'm sure will be along to answer soon. I think some of them have gone back after 2 weeks but had a medical note saying they can only do light duties xx

Re: How long will I need off work?
Definitely no heavy lifting for a 6 week period hun, so if your job requires lifting from you, your GP will write a note for you, it won't say you've had a BA on it if that's not want you want, your GP can just write that you had 'general surgery' nothing more lovely.
You may well only need one week off having overs, but that's just in general, some women need two, so if you'd rather be prepared I'd book the two weeks off babe. Xx

I'm a nurse and I've got 2 and half weeks off but won't be doing any lifting for at least 6 weeks. My role is mostly co-ordinating the A&E dept so I will be able to avoid lifting quite easily x

Most recommend two weeks hun, no point in going back before you're ready or fit to x

Re: How long will I need off work?
Hey Hun,
I agree with the girls, 6 weeks before you try anything. I had 10 days off work and am now on restricted duties for 4 weeks but even after then if I'm still not 100% ill have longer off. I work in the public sector and although its elective surgery you still are allowed as much time as you need off on restricted. Check with your occupational health department where you stand but sure they will be fine.
What you've gotta think is you've paid a lot of money to get this done and wouldn't want to mess it up by going back to full duties too early. As you well know from being a nurse you would advise don't go back to normal stuff too soon. Nurses can be the worst patients and don't ask for help, my mum and mother in law are both nurses lol.

Thanks for your help :) It's really helped me decide in how long I should have off work. I think I'm going to try take a month off work and then discuss going back to do light work xxxx

Re: How long will I need off work?
Hi, I would say as much time as you can possibly get off lol. I had one week off, I'm a receptionist in a doctors surgery and thought that one week would be okay as I don't lift anything heavy and its just computer work and paperwork but hell, it knocked me sideways going back to work and I could have done with another week off. I highly recommend getting as much rest and time off as you can, a month off sounds perfect! x
