First Post-BA Shower
Am now post BA (think I need to update my profile info haha).
Have had my check up and stitches out with the nurse on Friday and she said I could have my first shower on Sunday - have been needing it soooo much!
Was just thinking though should I leave my steristrips on then change to fresh ones or just shower without them on at all? I'm still really concious about anything getting near my incisions, can't think how I'd be able to keep them dry.

Re: First Post-BA Shower
Glad all went well at your check up Kareen
I found the best way to change steri-strips was to do it in the shower. When showering, don't walk your incisions with any shower gel, just simply let the water wash over them. When the steri-strips are wet it makes them sooooo much easier to peel away away.
After showering you need to ensure the incision are thoroughly dry. Pat them dry with your towel, never rub hun, then use your hairdryer on a cool setting to just blow the incisions until you're sure they're bone dry. When they are dry, you can then easily re-apply your new steri-strips.
Enjoy your shower babe, the first one always feels life heaven!

Kareen! You must feel like a new woman, with fantastic new boobies to top it! All fresh and ready to face the world with your new assets :)
I was interested to know what day do you have the sutures out? Do they ever use clips? Suppose would heal quite so neatly, nicely with clips. When are bandages removed? Does the surgeon decide for each person or is there like a rough standard protocol which people adhere to? I ask so many questions!
Sorry to butt into your thread Kareen XXX

The majority of surgeons use dissolvable stitches Mel, so at around one week post-op you will have a wound check. Sometimes the odd stitch needs snipping just to make it easier for it to dissolve, for example the stitches at the ends that have been knotted, but other than that, there's really nothing to it. Some will have their dressings removed at one week, other will be requested to wait 2 weeks depending on healing and you may be requested to change any steri-strips that are applied to help strengthen any skin as it heals back together.
Do they ever use clips?
No hun, dissolvable stitches and possibly sometimes glue over the top are generally all that are used. If any permanent stitches are required they would be in the deeper layers of skin tissue where they couldn't be skin then closed over and dissolvable stitched used to close the incision over the top.
.Suppose would heal quite so neatly, nicely with clips
Exactly hun. this is why permanent stitches or clips are never used on the outer layers of your skin.
When are bandages removed?
Sometimes one week, sometimes 2 depending on your healing and sometimes a little longer for those who may be slower healing or having difficulties.
Does the surgeon decide for each person or is there like a rough standard protocol which people adhere to?
Decisions are made on a case by case basis Mel and this is why we do suggest you never follow anyone else's post-op care other than the instructions you're given for own after surgery. It would get so confusing if we all followed each other, but because we're all different our care will be based on our own bodies healing time, which will often differ from others.
I ask so many questions!
Ask all the questions you like hun

Thanks Cookie and Tinkerbell :) Definitely need to do what the surgeon advises, they are the experts. I'd follow everything they say! I'd be scared i'd do something wrong! I don't understand people who choose to do something different and go against advice. I didn't expect glue to be used. Thanks again girls :)
