Changing dressings Empty Changing dressings

Post by CharFaye 21st January 2013, 7:20 pm

Hi ladies,
Went for my waterproof dressings changed and general check last Friday (everything was perfect) but she gave me spare dressings, the same waterproof ones i had on for a week. She told me to replace them after a shower and not get them too wet, ive had 3 showers since and haven't changed my dressings, they haven't come away or anything but should I change them anyway? I'm worried because when she did it she wiped them with what looked like a medi wipe and dried them then replaced, I don't have these and I don't know what is wipe/dry my incisions with?
Think ill be ok to leave them until I see my surgeon a week today?
My trail of thought is if its not broken don't fix it".. ? Xx

I would replace after each shower as you've been instructed Char. In not replacing them and if any water does actually pass through those dressings you're creating a damp environment which is a breeding ground for bacteria and could lead to infection hun.

After removing the dressings do make sure the wound is thoroughly dry. Use a hairdryer on a cool setting to gently blow dry them if you're unsure lovely and then redress the dry wounds. Xx

She's only given me 2 sets of dressings? I would have used them all by now? It's a week today I go see my surgeon and they're the exact same as I had on after surgery? If I can still shower as normal should she have given me 10days worth? Xx

Totally agree with cookie damp old blood with wet dressing can breed like mad. Although they seem ok i would change them hun and deff use the hairdryer. But best thing to do is ring the nurse and check and say to her u didnt give me enough. xxx

Oh I can see mine through the tape. Defoe call the nurse then as that doesn't add up right, you may have to get them to send you more.

I would think she gave you a couple of days worth then maybe leave them au naturel. I had mine uncovered after 14 days, with nothing on them at all.

I think you should call your nurse babe. If she wants the wounds left she'd say so, if she wants the wounds kept in dressings she can post them out to you hun. Its best to follow ONLY the instruction of your own clinic babe. Xx

Lol don't be scared you'll be fine. The sticky is nowhere near your incisions, so just gently peel the old dressing off, dry the wound thoroughly with the hairdryer as I suggested, then pop a new dressing on. You won't mess up, you'll be just fine! yes xx
