Re: when can we go swimming
I think it depends to what extent tink. I took my little boy the other evening but I only 'splashed' around a bit, I wouldn't fancy doing full on breast stroke or front crawl yet. I'd say based on my surgeons advice that would be ok after the 6 weeks mark xx

Yes. 6 weeks is the general guide because of the possible risk of infection hun. Remember you can't rub any oils or lotions onto those wounds for 6 weeks due the risk of the product infecting the wound, so with swimming in a public pool there are chemicals in there too which can affect the wound as well. there is also the fact that some people don't give a thought to their own personal hygiene, or that they may have an infection themselves that CAN get passed on so all that you're sharing in a pool with strangers, the same applies to jacuzzis too and saunas are also advised against too until 6 weeks post-op because of the moist air and it is a breeding ground for bacteria. Only ever use these public areas after your surgeon has given their approval. Xx

Also if you are going to swim you would have to leave it until you are given the all clear for exercise. Swimming uses every single muscle in the body.
With hydro pools for the kids also I would be exceptionally wary as kids pee in the pool :( I remember ours was frequently closed for poo reasons too. It's so hard as I can totally empathise as missing out on things. Does she do soft play afterwards? Can you help her there or what about at portage?

I was told 6 weeks before going into public pools due to the risk of infection as you are surrounded by other people's germs but not to do any proper swimming for 12 weeks as the action is quite aggresive on the chest.

Re: when can we go swimming
I wanted to lose weight after op too as going Dominican in June and op in end of march. I'm hoping to lose as much as poss prior to surgery then eat well for 6 weeks after. Then back to gym! Are you allowed straight back into running after 6 weeks or do they say gentle workouts? X

Re: when can we go swimming
I am in this position!! I have become much more 'padded' since op, despite eating healthily!!
They say not to run at 6 weeks- you can imagine its quite strenuous on the new breast situation- I'm going to go to the gym and tell them the situation so they can advise on low impact exercise- I feel like the bike (sitting up one) and maybe cross trainer would be fine at this stage...

Re: when can we go swimming
For me I've only just past few weeks started back running properly as at 6 weeks I was no where near healed internally and found it very uncomftBle and aches to even jog. So started back on bike, progressing to cross trainer without then with arms, then recently running. We're all individual but just bear in mind internally were not healed at 6 weeks and anything that causes discomfate or pain to stop and resume again later .. X
