Botched breast op woman settles case
A WOMAN who was hours from death following a botched breast enlargement operation by a disgraced plastic surgeon has settled her lawsuit against the surgery for an undisclosed sum.
Kate Murray (28), from Dun Laoghaire, Dublin, did not appear at the High Court.
While the amount of the settlement was not disclosed, it was revealed that Ms Murray was awarded all her court costs.
She sued Italian plastic surgery consultant Marco Loiacono and Cosmedico Clinic (Dublin) Ltd, trading as Cosmedico Clinic in Kilmacanogue in Co Wicklow.
Mr Loiacono was barred from practising medicine here by the Irish Medical Council in 2011 after a fitness-to-practise committee heard Ms Murray's case.
Scarred
The committee found him guilty of 14 counts of professional misconduct and recommended that he be struck off the Irish medical register. He was not in court yesterday.
The Medical Council heard evidence from plastic surgeon Peter Meagher, who testified that Ms Murray had been left "horribly physically scarred for life" following her treatment by Mr Loiacono. Mr Meagher described the Italian surgeon's treatment of Ms Murray as "absolutely reckless in the extreme".
Ms Murray underwent breast augmentation surgery on March 15, 2008, and three days later began to experience severe chest and abdominal pain.
She finally had him remove the implants on March 31 but on April 3 she was rushed to St Vincent's University Hospital suffering from severe sepsis on her chest, back and stomach, which doctors testified could have killed her within nine hours had she not been hospitalised.
She was unavailable for comment last night. Cosmedico Clinic said it was precluded from discussing the case in public under the settlement terms.

Poor girl.... I can only hope that whatever her settlement was is enough to put right the damage this butcher of a surgeon did. I doubt mentally though, no amount of money will ever put right the damage there xx
