having surgery 3 hours distance from home worry q
my mum worried me now as i said i wanted to have surgery with transform with dr chatarasak as i have read all about him i have consultation on wednesday at transform Cardiff (where i live). But to have the actual surgery though is in London 3 hours away. If any you have travelled for surgery what happens if when you get home theres a problem with the scars/infection/implant etc etc like complications? do you have to get a family member/friend to take you all the way back to London??? All the cosmetic surgery companies ive looked at mya transform etc only do surgery hours away from where i live...

I had my first BA in Spain, 2nd in Birmingham..I live just outside of London. I made sure they gave me anti sickness pills and tramadol 30 mins before we left the hospital. Journey back was fine I did have a pillow between my chest and seatbelt just in case.
Your check ups should be in your original clinic in Cardiff. But I would check as I didn't go with transform.

the only one that is close is spire (surgery in Cardiff) but you have to pay jsut for a consultation with them and havnt heard any reviews on the cardiff surgeons there. My mum agreed to drive me to london but said to me i need a back up plan if anytihng goes wrong as she wont drive me back to London if theres any complications im now thinking what the hell do i do if theres a complication when im back home thast night or the following day

If you go home and have a heamatoma, or immediate infection/rejection of the implant or anything else that would require 'surgery' you would have to return to the hospital lovely. There's no way around that other than to turn to the NHS, but if you did that you could risk losing your implant if they felt there was a problem, because they'd just take out the implant and stitch you back. Your health and well being, being their only concern. They do replace implants for those of us who had private surgery.
For infection or anything else that a nurse can treat for you then you would be treated at the clinic where you had your consultation.
For example my clinic is an hour away from home, I had an infection and had to go every day to have it cleaned and redressed, then it eventually got to every 3 days but it was quite a burden for me even being only an hour away.
So, I won't lie hun, your mum is right, travel does need taking into consideration. But if you're prepared for the possibility and you have someone with you a 3 hour journey shouldn't be a problem if you did have an emergency hun. Xx

You wont be able to drive at all for about a week babe. If you had a complication immediately after coming home from surgery you would need someone who could take you to the hospital.
If you got an infection or had any post-op niggles anytime a week after surgery and you felt OK to drive you would then be able to drive yourself hun and you would probably only need to go to the clinic rather than the hospital Xx

ok thanks for letting me know hmm I would have to get a taxi then i guess. What are the chances of having a complication that i would need to go back to the surgeon for? surely its a very low percentage as thousands are done a year? Id have to risk paying around £400 for a taxi to Loondon and back then urgh so many thigs to think about now my ba's becoming a serious thing lol xx

I'd say the chances are low babe. I should imagine any immediate complications related to your surgery would happen within the first 24hours. I'm presuming you're having an overnight stay at the hospital? But that's me just talking out of guess work from suffering a heamatoma myself which happened very soon after surgery, but they can actually happen anytime. This really is something you'd be best discussing with your surgeon hun and asking him to be realistic with his answer because although the risk is low its still there, so if you have no-one to take you if you were unfortunate enough to suffer a complication, you should still be prepared hun. Xx

Maybe book into a hotel in or near london for a night or two after? Places like travel lodge can be cheap if you book in advance and it's cheaper than a 400 taxi but I guess it depends if your mum would be able to stay n drive you back x

Hi lovely!
I had my surgery five days ago and I had the driver from the hospital group drop & pick me & my mum up (we also live 3 hours from the hospital) I thought post op it would be a nightmare considering a had unders & a lift but I asked for some anti sickness tablets & pain relief for the journey, I took a giant V pillow and literally slept the whole way! So I was so lucky considering, I hope your journey goes as smooth!!!
I think if your paying for the service. Ask them to stop if you feel unwell & bring some comfy clothes! Good luck xxxxxx

i havnt really got any close close friends that i could ask. I know the chance of having to be driven back to london less than a week after surgery because of early complications is low but if i had to my husband would have to drive and we'd have to bring our daughter and id have to ask my dad to keep check on our dog or me taxi it alone which would be costly. Even so it would still be cheaper than haivng surgery in Cardiff - spire Cardiff charge 4.5k-5k for straight forward ba! and no other companies actually operate in Cardiff. and the surgeon i want is with transform x

I went with Mr chanterasak in cardiff through transform. I travelled down to London the day before my op stayed in a hotel over night had my op then stayed in the hotel again over night in case I had any complications. I traveled home and was fine. The transform clinic in cardiff is only open 1 day a week any other time you will have to go to the bristol clinic which isn't far, it's just over the severn bridge.
