Tanning post op
Hey
My op is on march and I'm going away in July, just wondering how tanning would be? Is it safe? How long did you wait till you could tan either on holiday or sunbed etc? Thanks xx

Re: Tanning post op
At four months post-op your skin on your boobs will still be very tight and very sensitive to sunlight and will probably burn very easily, so it would be best to keep your boobs entirely covered while your sunbathing babe.
Your scars will need to be covered in sunlight or if you go on the sunbed for a year post-op. this is because your new scars are at risk of pigmentation. (Going brown) so to avoid that, they have to be fully protected sweetness. Other than keeping your boobs covered though you're fine to sunbathe hun. Xx

You can sunbathe, but like Cookie said, cover your boobs completely x

So gutted :-( ill be brown then white! Gutter!! It's a girls holiday too. Could I not wear a really high SPF on my boobs and cover scars with tape? Not to sunbathe but to go out and about through the day, xx

No, they'll be too sensitive at 4 months post op and the skin is likely to burn. Best to cover them completely. At least you'll have a nice shape in tops x

Hmmm true. Is fake tanning ok? If you stay away from the scars? X

Re: Tanning post op
You can use the sunbed, but I wouldn't risk getting burned at all. The last thing you'd want to have to deal with is sunburn as well as a BA.
Fake tan? No... Your skin needs to be clear of all products to give you the least chance of infection post-op. xx

Re: Tanning post op
How long should you leave having a spray tan before hand? My spray tan can still be on my skin for about 10days? Think I should cancel mine just incase? it's 10 days before my op? X

Re: Tanning post op
Hey girls,
Fake tan generally takes 2-3weeks to be fully gone from the skin and even wash-off tan should be given a full 7 days! you can check for tan using surgical spirits on a cotton pad, or even toner on a cotton pad.
when It comes to pigmentation your looking at about 4-6months until the skin will be ok in the sun,to help prevent it wear a sunscreen with full UVA protection, not just high factor, UVA protection is measured in either stars or as Pa+++ which is the highest. Sunbeds can also cause pigmentation on the skin so I would treat these with the same rules, suncream won't protect you on a sunbed so your best to avoid them for the 4-6months.
hope this helps xx

Thanks Noelle. So do you think if I had a high UVA protection I could go out in normal tips though the day? Xx

Re: Tanning post op
Nope! No products on you anywhere! You've got to be as naked as the day you were born. Except for the paper knickers they give you, the gown and the sexy surgical stockings hahaha
Re: Tanning post op
Not only do you not want any trace of fake tan on for surgery you won't be able to shower for at least a week if not 2 after either so you don't want any patchy traces of it! X
