Given antibiotics to clear spots b4 the op!! Help!
Hy all,
I was booked to have my BA earlier this month on 8/04/11 but it got cancelled on the day by the PS his self due to a nasty lump/spot on my shoulder :( However Ive been t my gp since about the lump/spot & he's given me some antibiotics to clear it.
DOES ANY1 KNOW IF THE SPOT WILL GET WORSE B4 IT GETS BETTER WITH THESE ANTIBIOTICS, IN THEIR OWN EXPERIENCE OR WILL IT JUST DISAPPEAR?
I am very eager to get rid the spot completely, hopefully before my next op date (which is 31/05/11).
Is there anything that I can do alongside the antibiotics to speed things up & incourage to spot to 'naughty word'!
Any advice would be most appreciated xx

Re: Given antibiotics to clear spots b4 the op!! Help!
That's twice I've heard of op being cancelled due to spots. However only when the op is being done via nhs. I was worried myself about this because I'm covered in spots on my back chest and face due to stress ( believe me they were bad) i used to have lovely skin. I had my op private and was never an issue at all they didn't mention it or anything about it bearing in mind I had 3 huge ones on my right tit as well. I find that very strange, anyone know why nhs does this??? I heard blah blah blah about infection but hey what from a spot yet they are supposed to protect you from worse germs / elements when they open you up????!!!!!!!!
I know you shouldn't pick spots etc... Coz they will leave scars etc.... But if it were me I would dig the **naughty word** out and then let it heal. But that's just me. Xxx

Are you sure it's not a boil rather than a pot, as they usually give acne cream for spots. I can recommend tea tree oil applied to the affected area a it should help dry it up and tea tree oil is alo a natural antiseptic. I always put a few drops in my bath to help keep spots at bay.

Antibiotics take a few days to kick in, if its just a one off boil it should clear up fine hun, if its spots as in acne then im not sure as my daughter is on constant antibiotics for this and has been for over 5 months & had no change, they said that is would take at least 3 months to see the difference!

They do it because of infection risk. If they think that what you have is a boil/infective acne then this is caused by Staph A which can cause real big problems skin infection wise. Yes you will be prepped before surgery to hopfully kill anything on your skin, but after the surgery itself there is nothing stopping you touching your spot and then your incision and hey presto you've got Staph A in your incision site. Not to mention bacteria getting on to clothes/wash clothes etc etc.
Im sure you all know one of the biggest risks with augmentation is infection of the implant itself which is very difficult to treat, and the NHS being the NHS obviously want to keep costs down as much as they can, and avoiding infection of the implant is one way to do this. Further to this, patients avoid the potential risk of complications due to the need for further surgery as a patient.

Thanks all of u for ur advice,
Beej, I think Im gunna just stick to the antibiotics n see if they work 1st. Dont think Ive got the balls to dig the 'naughtyword' out lol
Misf1, thanks for the tea tree oil tip :)
Abbie thanks for the lavender oil tip & I hope it does get better straight away, wasnt a good experience getting told to go home without my new additions on 8th of this month believe me, OVER A SPOT/BOIL :(
Crystal, Its not acne, its a one off spot/boil what Ive got on my shoulder. It was pretty inflamed on the surgery day n thats why the PS sent me home "because he said that the germ in the boil might spread to the incision & cause infection. Its not inflamed now, but the marks still there like a pink dot, so still healing. Just hope these antibiotics kill it off completely n make the pink dot disappear :)
Louise, your spot on there hun, it prob is a money saving thing, To be honest I am gratefull because I'd rather have waited another month then to have got it done & got an infection of the implant, causing me worser stress/pain/discomfort.
Thanks alot again guys, I appreciate every bit of all your advice on. Sending you all a big
