Scars and bandages Empty Scars and bandages

Post by Sharona 17th May 2009, 10:59 am

Hi Ladies,

Yet another question Scars and bandages G36

I
was told that it's best to keep the original bandages on until stitches
are removed but I can't help of thinking that I should take them off and
clean the cuts! I thinks it's wierd that the wounds are under bandage
and waterproof tape, they can't breath at all under it, it can't be
good?

How was it with the rest of you, did you leave the
bandages on or did you clean the wounds and change the bandages before
the stitches were removed?

Thanks for your help!!

I would leave them on like you've been told, its better to keep deep incisions covered unlike normal cuts. I left my bandages on for 12-13 days post op and then they were removed and steri strips changed, my scars are barely noticeable now. Plus you dont have to clean your incisions, when you bathe the water on them is fine, you could cause an infection by touching/cleaning them x

You just want to peek don't you? Hysterical

If your PS has said leave them on, follow the advice. It'll be all clean and sterile in there so don't worry about cleaning the scars

I didn't change my steristrips, the nurse did it all. I had to keep them on for 7 days, and as my righty wasn't sealed properly, I kept that on for another week.

I had to take them out yesterday after all as I started getting allergic reaction to the glue on them. Called my clinic and got great advice, went to the pharmacy and bought all sort of bandages and lotions, and even antibiotic cream - just in case.. 👍

I kept my dressings on until the nurse changes them when i was about 10 days po i think

She then put clean steri strips on and told me they would fall off, they fell off within a week or so
