Oh no - Steroids!! Advice please?!
Hi,
Over the weekend, I've had some kind of weird allergic reaction to God knows what and my fingers swelled up yeseterday and I had a rash on my wrists that was driving me crazy!! Anyway, woke up this morning and my eyes were really swollen and the rash had spread everywhere So, I visit the Doc and she prescribes steroids !!! I explained I had surgery a month today and am not supposed to take steroids so she prescribed me a lose dose - one 25mg tablet to take for three days.
So - anyone else taken steroids before op?? Will they cancel mine?? I'm just so annoyed because April 5th is the only date I can do until nearly Christmas time
Was really looking forward to coming on here today to say - yay, a month today is my BA!!! But just don't know if that's going to happen now!

Can't you take topical steroids (i.e a cream / eye drops) ? Then they have less action in your body...

I asked her about that and she looked at me (from what I could see through my swollen eyes!) like I was crazy! Because I'm a severe asthmatic, she insisted I had to take oral steroids to reduce the chance of the reaction affecting me asthma as I was already becoming wheezy :( Just feel so gutted if my op can't go ahead.
Thanks for the reply x

oh no!! I'm going through the same. I'm waiting on a reply from the anaethetist on whether my op can go ahead on 29 March. Blinking nightmare. I had steroids for a chest infection. Been the the docs this morning so asked him to write letter to pcc confirming chest in clear and my peak flow result as I also have asthma but not bad xx

hlt67 - I know, I replied to your other discussion because I really felt for you and am a asthma sufferer myself! It's horrible isn't it :( Hanging in limbo land. Some good news hopefully though for me,the secretary just got back to me and said Mr Hassan has said that because it's only a 3-day course and low dosage it's absolutely fine and told me not to worry :) Yay! xxxxx Hope you get the same response! xxxxx

I was asked what the steroid was called, then another call to ask how long I was on it, then today has to be sure my chest infection had gone so fingers crossed. The only thing is that my peak flow is never high, at the weekend it was 350 today it was 300. It should be more but like my doc said each person is different. I'm going through so many emotions at the moment.
Brilliant new for you!! xx
