Sticky scar
For the past week or so my left scar has been sticking to my bra and seems to be leaking out some blood doesnt seem to be any puss though.
Last night the remaining bit of scab came off but it wasnt hard like a normal scab it was a bit like jelly if that makes sense?
The scar is now really red and angry looking and quite painfull, any suggestions?
Thanks x

Re: Sticky scar
Hi Little Miss.
This sounds similar to my current issue. I had dissolveable stitches and all was fine on my 9 day check up. Last week it felt like the edge of leftie's incision was kinda pulling. Not painful, just a bit uncomfortable. I had a proper good look at it and there seemed to be a hole, as if a scab had come off. No problem. Cleaned it (a bit of gloop / blood but no infection) but a few days later it still hadn't healed over so I saw the nurse last Thursday and she said one of my stitches hadn't dissolved and was pulling, which made the skin around it break slightly and look red and angry.
She took it out (immediately it felt better), cleaned it, confirmed no infection, and gave me some iodine and dressings and advised to keep it covered. I'm seeing my surgeon in a week so he can check it out then. Last night when I looked at it there seems to be more gloop and its showing no signs of healing over. The hole even looks a bit bigger and deeper! I thought maybe letting the air get to it may promote healing, but after a cryptic conversation with my mum (she's a nurse, but doesn't know about my BA), she said if there's no infection its actually best to keep it covered and clean, as it will heal from the inside, albeit slower, and less likely to form an absess. She was surprised they didn't put a butterfly stitch in place though.
Is it towards one side of your incision? Apparently people tend to experience similar issues to mine at the edges. Might be worth giving the clinic a quick call and just to be sure, give it a clean with warm salt water.
Fingers crossed it heals itself up x

Just had to chime in on that - Mother's (I am one and I've got one) are notoriously hard to fool. Respect!!!
Hope you both get your little infections cleared up quickly.

Heehee
She did keep putting a wierd kind of stress on "your friend" when we were talking on the phone about my hypothetical friend and their hypothetical stitches. I think I've probably been rumbled...oops!

Re: Sticky scar
Mozelle I phoned the clinic and went through she had a good look and took a swab, my leaky bit seems to be more in the middle but all around it and above it is very red and angry looking and after my post earlier I noticed that it does have some puss coming out of it.
When I got home there was a msg from my nurse to say that she had spoken to Mr Ray my surgeon and could I fone back but the time I got home the surgerys closed so will fone first thing tomorrow and let you know how I get on.
Hope yours gets better soon, she put a dressing on again and gave me more for the rest of the week, said ive to keep it covered.
Thanks for your advice much appreciated. X

Re: Sticky scar
Foned the clinic and went through again. Mr Ray has put me on antibiotics and has advised that my dressings are changed to another kind as he thinks the ones I had would cause more trauma to my scar.
Ive to use a antibacterial spray along the inciscion line then put a sort of net dressing on the scar then a dressing on top of that.
Mr Ray has asked to see me on Friday so he can have a look and discuss whats been happening.
Never ending!

Re: Sticky scar
a wee update on my scar.
Saw Mr Ray on Friday and he had a good look said he wanted me to carry on with the spray and dressings for a week then go back next again week and have steristrips put on to give more support.
When I got home he phoned me at home and said he had been thinking about me while driving home and asked if I could go to the Nuffield in the morning. Arrved there and he gave me local anasthetic and 3 stitches to try and keep it together and to go back next Friday to get them out and also gave me another course of antibiotics - my third course in the 3 weeks since my BA!
Asked him if this was common? He looked at me and laughed and said NO! He doesnt understand why its happening but doesnt think its anything too serious as my implant is not exposed, if it was it would have to come out .
Fingers crossed this will solve the problem

Re: Sticky scar
Thanks Steph (inspired by all the bikini pics).
That's really good that Mr Ray was thinking over your case and called you back. Fingers crossed this will sort everything and there won't be anymore issues. Sounds like you're in good hands Little Miss.
