Post by nat4andy 4th February 2012, 9:04 am

Hiya ladies,
Iv got my op in 5 days....OMG!!! It is starting to sink in that i am actually going to get this done, the pain doesn't worry me, i had a bad delivery with my son so i always compare my pain to that and it comes no where near!! But what is freaking me out is the GA, iv never had an operation before so I just keep thinking about what if I don't wake up. How do you ladies get over this?? I try to put it to the back of my mind but every now and again it comes back to haunt me xx Shocked

awww nat dont worry. I did too, had loads of bad dreams and allsorts. Ive four kids - they were usually in the dreams ... its so daft tho honestly you are so taken care of NOTHING will happen to you.starting to think about GA 571992

There are loads of threads in the history on here, lots of advice about being scared of the GA - maybe have a rummage round? Its often just nice to hear that someone else was a bit wobbly about it and these lovely ladies put them at ease i think.

Hun its something we all worry about towards the end of the journey, and you have nothing to worry about by the time they put you to sleep the next thing you know, your awake, they look after you really well.

I too was petrified and scared I wud never wake up to c my kids again :(
My anesthetist was AMAZING thou. He came around to me b4 surgery and told me that it was his job to put me under and, from the moment he does that, i am his number one priority. He said that he wudn leave my side for a minute throughout the op, he will check my stats constantly n I wud never b left alone.
This really helped me b4 the op n hope it helps you too :)
Good luck hun

Hi nat I have my surgery on Thursday and am too worried about the snow, I have a driver and I am worried in case it is cancelled or that I get stranded in Manchester and can't get home after my op!! I will be so glad for this time next week when hopefully I will be at home on my way to recovery. It can snow all it likes. By the way about the GA, I have had a few ops in the past and the worst thing to happen was being sick x

I felt exactly the same hun. I'd never had an op before and was petrified. But I have to say it was very easy and nothing at all to worry about. The anetheatist will put your mind at ease. I remember lying down on the table & saying how frightened I was & they just told me not to give it a thought, it's their job to look after you....they were so chilled about it all! They put you out so quickly & the next thing you are awake with your new boobs!!! xxx

Hi nat4andy, thank you for mentioning this because I have the exact same thought going through my head again and again. I haven't been to the hospital since I was born (thank God) so I'm very curious about the GA part too!! I feel guilty because I never needed an operation and now I'm going to put my body through a trauma for a cosmetic reason starting to think about GA 683465

Don't feel guilty hun. For a cosmetic reason yes, but as all us girls understand, its more than that. Its about self respect and making life as happy as possible.... you shouldn't feel guilty, you should feel proud of yourself for getting up and on with your life and making the most out of it.... we get one shot at this life xxxx

You will be in and out before you know it hun. I've had lots of GAs and most of them were when I was ill and survived lol. I had mine done under local but not because of any worries or problems with it. In fact I like going under, felt a bit deprived this time lol xxxx Stars Soo excited for your less than 5 days now hun xx

I can totally understand your worries. My hubby had to have his wisdom teeth removed under GA - his motto was 'well if I dont wake up from it - I'll not know, so no need to be worried beforehand'

Bit drastic - but true I guess!

Two days starting to think about GA 727935 I bet you are soooo excited x

I'm exited and nervous, if u think about me with my new boobie in a bikini it is the best thought ever Flash
I love to be in controll and have everything planned and I have a set routine so this is a strange situation as I can't think too much ahead. I'm very confidant with my surgeon just the GA that's scary so I try not to think about it. xxx

Hello again nat .... its getting nearer for you starting to think about GA 727935

I like your thinking ... me too - I prefer to say Ive only a fortnight to go rather than two weeks ... that sounds nearer for me too starting to think about GA 923101

I am not worried about the GA this time, the first time I was like you are feeling now but honestly its fine. They do things so quickly too, when you actually get in the the pre-theatre room they are all over you. Theres hardly time to get panicky before you are drifting off to the land of nod ... and then waking up with starting to think about GA 204135
