Reaction to my scar tape...
So, I have quite "temperamental" skin. I wouldn't go so far as to say it's sensitive, but my Dad has terribly allergenic skin, and as I've gotten older mine is becoming more reactive to various things and I get the feeling I'll get skin more and more like Dad's over the years.
ANYWAY - the problem is my PS told me to tape my scars for 6 months post-op to stop them spreading, etc, but over the last couple of weeks I've noticed I've been really itchy along my scar line. At first I thought maybe it was internal healing going on (although, I thought it was quite late in the game to be happening - 4 months post-op and all!) but today I took the tape off to change it and noticed the skin where the tape had been was all red and inflamed - and REALLY itchy!!
I've put some hydrocautisone cream on the patches, and let the tape off for the minute to give it a chance to take effect... but I'm just wondering if I should put up with the itching and keep taping, or should I give up on the tape as it's obviously causing an irritation for my skin??
Maybe just give my clinic a call and see what the PS recommends in this instance..... ??

Re: Reaction to my scar tape...
Hi Hun, I would definitely give them a call. I had a funny reaction to the tape too & I only had to wear mine for about 6 weeks and the nurse said they were really ready to come off. The incisions basically went really red & itchy.
6 months seems like quite a long time without letting the air get to them. I would certainly check to see if it would be best if you took them off. Or they may just recommend some antihistamine tablets or something to stop the itching xxx

Hmm, good thinking! I didn't even consider antihistamines. I know, 6 months is AGES, but my PS reckons it's the best way to keep the scar as fine a line as possible... it hasn't bothered me until now with the itching....
Thanks hun x

Kiwigirl...ask them if they can recommend a more hypoallergenic tape. I'm sure there's some sort of cloth or silicone tape you can use that you wouldn't have a reaction to.
