5 weeks and scab off too soon- bit concerned?? Empty 5 weeks and scab off too soon- bit concerned??

Post by jangledania 10th January 2012, 3:25 pm

Hi, last night i scratched the scab off the end of my incision...aaaaggg! am so annoyed with myself, i was itching and then off it came, its a tiny area at end of incision line, but when it came off it bled a tiny bit, and was a few mm deep not just surface....so am bit concerned infection could get in there? I have kept it covered with a plaster but when i showered it got wet, so i dried it and put a spot of lavender oil on as that has always workes for me with cuts. BUT if it did infect could the infection get right through to the implant??? am probably just panicking as usual, i'm just so annoyed with myself cos i was out of the infection risk time, now i've made a small hole.....!

the surgeon rang me earlier and i missed the call! hopefully she will ring soon, but do you think if it infects it can still go deep or hopefully not as i'm 5 weeks.....

Hi jangledania, I'm only speaking from my experience as a first aider but im sure it's just a surface cut as opposed to spitting the wound open and it bled, a new scab will form. Just keep it clean and allow new scab to form , it Should continue to heal underneath. It is unlikely to get right through to the implant but just keep an eye on it and see what the surgeon has to say. Xx

Sorry I meant to say you only need to worry if it's actually split the wound open.

Thank you! yes, it's surface and a few mm into incision i think, its tiny, in my panic i was imagining the little hole would go right through to the implant, forgetting that wounds heal from the inner layers first....so unlikely that it could get to the implant.

Life is a bit rubbish at mo as split with my bf a while ago, and I love my new boobs so much they really cheer me up! so think i panic that i'll get infected and have to have them out. aaaagh! am looking forward to being a few months down the line and hopefully will stop panicking!

Ah sorry to hear that. Things always get better again :) its just time

My surgeon said to me that even if you get an infection it can be fixed with tablets anyway so not to stress about it.

I haven't even seen my wounds yet as I only had op yesterday. They are covered with waterproof dressings, and they can stay that way for now as far as I'm concerned :)

Hope you keep healing nicely x

Hun I'm sure you will be fine as at 5 weeks you are probably healing well underneath. I am only just over 2 weeks post op and have a scabby bit that is rather red. My ps asked me to send him a pic and he called me back, he said it was fine as not puss or weeping and said the skin would heal underneath first.

Sorry to hear about bf I'm in a similar situation so can sympathise, chin up hun and big hug xxx

I wouldn't worry, the itching means they are healing well, am sure it was just a surface bleed and the scab will re form a bit thinner than previously. The scabs will be fallin off around now anyway. Dont worry, but I wouldn't cover it, just keep it clean and let it breath.
