Scar steri strips when to remove

Dear Ladies

I'm now 5 weeks post op. When I removed suture 1 Week post op, nurse gave me more steri strips to replace once it comes off. And I understood as nurse told me that I will have to replace & keep wearing them until next follow up appointment which will be 8 week post op. But other ladies seems stop wearing this scar tapes & starts putting bio oil much earlier. So when I checked with my surgeon yesterday, he said I could now switch to bio oil. So I'm planning to remove this tapes from tonight after shower. But still worried tho just in case as I have never been off the tape since surgery. How long after surgery you ladies removed this scar tapes completely and srarted massaging with bio oil? please. And akso would appreciate any tips the best way to massage?

mine were removed by the nurse last week(2 half weeks post op) and she told me to massage the scars with E45 cream,even gave me a tube!,i just rub it in for a few mins,dont know if im doing it right!xx

Im 3 weeks post op and still have mine on im not aloud to touch them, my ps will do that next monday il be just over 4 weeks, i cannot wait to have them off! they gave me a roll of it so when i go in the shower i put some extra over the top and then i take that extra strip off once showered.

I was told 2 weeks minimum the steri strips stay on for xx

The nurse at the hospital said to me that after that they won't make a difference xx Hug

Mine were removed by the nurse at 2 week post op checkup!!

I had my first strips removed by the nurse, like yourself at 1 week, and was then given my own supply to put on for a further week. Once these were off the nurse said to leave it a week before I started to massage. Only started to use Bio oil at week 4 and to massage then as I was a bit scared of doing this, but I must say the scars are looking really good now.

There is no set way to massage, I run my finger along the scar, then use small circular movements along it, then cross over side to side over the breadth of the scar. Hope this helps. XXX

Thanks very much ladies. Very helpful. I hardly can see anyone has left this steri strips longer than me(5 weeks post op). SO I decided to brave myself now. going to have shower. Fingers crossed!!! x x x

i was told to wear mine for 3 months!!!!!! replace them twice a week. ps says this will reduce the scarring? we will see!

I'll take your 3 months and DOUBLE IT pinkpetal!! Yep, I have to keep mine taped for 6 months. In the opinion of my PS he thinks it's the most effective way to minimise the scarring by preventing it from spreading at all. He said by 6 months post op, the scars will be well healed - at the silver stage - and won't spread. SO, 6 months of tape for me.

To be honest... I think I'm going to feel a bit scared and naked without my tape... I'm so used to it now!

ha ha me too. i still feel that they are gonna fall out without it!

Oh Dear!! too late. I've already braved myself.... But feel comfortable without it though. See how it goes,,,, maybe go back to steri strips!!

But looks like all England surgeon girls above removed this all less than 4 weeks. Like pink petal and kiwi girl outside England recommended 3-6 months..interesting!!

I had them on for about 5 weeks and had my 6week check up yesterday and i can start bio oiling them NOW Yipee!.
