How long to wait before applying scar cream? Empty How long to wait before applying scar cream?

Post by alymomma 11th October 2011, 3:04 pm

Good morning wonderful ladies of BJSF!

I'm 28 days PO (almost a full month!)! I've had the steri-strips removed for about two weeks now. The scars are healing nicely; however, I was wondering how long do you think I have to wait before I can start applying some scar fading cream? The incisions are fully closed and all, but I'm not too sure if it's too early to start applying that cream...what do you think?

Any and all comments are fully appreciated!

Thanks!

I was told at my last post op appointment not to put anything on them yet, that was at 4 weeks, so my next (at 8 weeks) they may say that I can.

All doctors are different though! You should ring your clinic!

I was wondering about that as well. My are under my arms, and I have dissolvable stitches, my next appointment is only on the 17th of Nov, still a long way to go. I'm already using spray, my doc said it would be ok as it has alcohol in that would keep it sterilized. Can't shave yet, urgh

I would wait until your next check up which is usually about the 6 week mark. They will tell you then if you can put cream on your scars and may even suggest what you should use.

I would ask your ps about putting stuff on your scars as you dont want to get an infection, although they maybe healed.

Yeah, they're completely closed, and I don't have my next checkup with my PS until December 14th! Sooo far from now :(
