Re: Hibiscrub
Hummmmm,
Im trying to think back and im sure my pre-op instructions said i had to wash myself in some kinda Hibi scrub the night before my op, which I did do and continued to do after my op ( just not the boob area).....

Re: Hibiscrub
I will ask but just trying to get prepared in advance.
My Ba is 16 december, so don't fancy rushing round the shops having to buy any last minute items!

Re: Hibiscrub
I didn't have to do anything like that, surely by the time you've got to the hospital you could of picked up all sorts of germs? Xxx

Re: Hibiscrub
I was advised to use hibiscrub on my neck down the night before and day of when I showered. I think it just helps kill some of the bacteria on your body.
Of course, they still serilize the area prior to the op.

My boyfriend suggested it might be something to do with MRSA maybe? Or maybe its just different PS and their preferred methods? xxx

Re: Hibiscrub
I have read some of the girls saying they had to use hibiscrub before their ops hun, I think it does depend on who or where you're having it done. If your ps wants you to to do this it should be in your pre-op instructions. xx

Re: Hibiscrub
They only usually ask you to use hibiscrub if your swabs for MRSA come back positive. If they do want you to use it they will probabaly provide it.

Hibiscrub before surgery
Hi there, yes you will need to shower in Hibiscrub the night before your surgery and the morning of your surgery. The majority of infections post surgery come from what lives on our own skin, therefore it's really important to use Hibiscrub as this removes all the bacteria that lives on the skin so preventing these bacteria from entering the wound during surgery and causing an infection.
It's really important to apply plenty of soap especially in warm, moist areas - armpits, under breast, groin, perineum and any skin folds as bacteria numbers in these areas are highest. Leave the soap on the skin for 1 minute to allow it to kill the bacteria before rinsing off under the shower.
Also, you should wash your hair with the Hibiscrub as the hair also contains fairly high levels of bacteria.
Lots of luck with your surgery and I hope it all goes well for you x x

Re: Hibiscrub
I washed myself in it pre op for a week but thats because I work in a hospital and am a bit obsessed with bugs. My MRSA screen came back negative though

Re: Hibiscrub
I showered right before I left for the hospital. Don't use any body creams, deoderant or make-up... leave your skin clean xx
Re: Hibiscrub
I didn't use any, and didn't have any probllems, but if it gives you peace of mind and it's what your surgeon recommends then I'd do it
