Random measuring experience - M&S
So, had my 6 week check with PS today and got the go ahead to wear normal bras. Went to M&S to get measured.
Weirdly, no tape measure was used. The woman simply asked me what size sports bra I was currently wearing (34DD) and said "the band looks to be the right size so let's try some D and DD bras". Is this normal measuring practice? Shouldn't they at least get a tape measure involved?!!! Anyway, D was far too small. I tried a DD in a particular bra and was told the middle bit was not flat against my chest and therefore it did not fit. I suggested sizing up to an E cup to which she said "no - just don't buy one of those bras, it's not the right shape for you"!!!!! I ended up trying a 34E by myself - lo and behold a perfect fit. Even got one of her colleagues to check and she confirmed it was a great fit. I came away with 3 bras - all 34E.
The second assistant said that it you always need to try on and not just go on a specific size - she reckoned bras sizes vary greatly dependant on style. The whole experience was not at all how I expected it would be - perhaps some of you can tell me whether this was normal or not!

Re: Random measuring experience - M&S
Yes this is the best way to be fitted into a bra, and the tape measure way is outdated now. Not sure why she wouldn't let you try on the E? I dont rate M&S on their measuring. I would try somewhere more specialised bravissimo, debenhams etc. I find la senza can be hit and miss, some are good some are bad and the sizes are small, so what you measure there you will not measure else where. Best to try every bra you ever buy on.
Re: Random measuring experience - M&S
Thanks girls. I had no idea they would fit into an E cup - they don't look that big to me so am really pleased.
Think I needed to rant. Feel better for it. I suppose bottom line is that I ended up with bras which are comfortable and seem to fit. Think I will give it a few more weeks then try and get to a Bravissimo or somewhere. Will be giving M&S a miss next time! x

she sounds like a great bra fitter, which is unusual for M&S

M&S aren't the best to be honest, plus the clasps on there bras also go funny and I end up throwing the bra away. Bravissimo are so much better. x

Re: Random measuring experience - M&S
I had an awful expereinece in M&S at my first bra shopping experience 6 weeks po. I have had an uplift with 390unders and the cow stood outside with another fitter after measuring me, wispering about how high my nipples were and that I had had a boob job! I left in tears and have never gone back.
La senza were fab but I do tend to be a different size in every shop so always try on. Debenhams bra's from the Gorgeous range are lovely and they are good for their fitting service to xx

I agree, I think you were very lucky to have someone who knows what they're talking about and gave you great advice. xx
Re: Random measuring experience - M&S
Yes - the second lady was great. She had big boobs too and was really sharing her own experiences of bra buying with me. The first one wasn't great tho. I guess it can be a bit hit and miss wherever you go x

No disrespect intended to the lady of course - just think it really helped to talk to someone willing to share personal experiences. Shows how long it is since I was last measured (with my old fried eggs!) that I had no idea they didn't use a tape measure! X
