going braless 24/7?
Hi all,
Since my BA I've been very reluctant to wear a bra, probably for several reasons. A) Because they're still sore particularly my nipples and inframammary region where the incisions are B) Because I'm a bit insecure about how big they now are (I feel not having a bra on makes them seem smaller CRAZY RIGHT!?)and C) Because it just feels better without one!
I am wondering if many women with implants regularly go braless? Maybe use nipple covers instead? Thanks for so much for your help from this boobie newbie!

Ah, so I just had a thought...maybe I'm just going through a bra crisis? Is that normal? I can't find one that I like, none of them are comfortable...is this just a phase after all?

Re: going braless 24/7?
Iv just noticed ur only 7 days post op, why are u not wearing a sports bra ? For the first few weeks it's usually recommended u wear a tight sports bra, usually 1 size smaller than u are, then after that for the next 4 weeks or so u wear one that fits .. Day and night only removing to shower or change... I'm guessing ur PS has a different method if u haven't had to wear one atall ?

Re: going braless 24/7?
So right out of the gate my PS gave me an unlined VS bra with an underwire...I like the unlined part because they seem less big, but the underwire is a b****! But, to be fair, I have tried several sports bras and they irritate me as well... :-( too tight everywhere, too much inframammary rubbing..I don't know what is wrong with me. :-(

Re: going braless 24/7?
if they rub on your scars pop one of those flat cotton wool pads in, or something similar. You need to be wearing a bra or your implants will slip into odd positions, you don't want to spoil the careful placement of your surgeon!!!

Re: going braless 24/7?
Try going to tesco ad getting one of ther full support bras , they are £6/£7 and have great support around the band and cup, et a band size higher than u usually wear, I'm a 32 and in a 34 now and it's great since I hve slight swelling on my band and sides, u really must be wearing a sports bra but idont recommend underwires ... No one with a BA should wear an under wire for at least 8 weeks post BA ... Ditch that , get a non underwired sports bra from tesco etc etc and get it on, wear it like ur own skin for the next 6 weeks, if u feel irritation then use the cotton pads on ur scars and nipples but it's essential u wear support so ur skin doesn't stretch and sag with this new weight ? I hope this helps, maybe u should call yr surgeon/company and ask ther advice tho I presume it would be similar to te advice we have all been given ?? Xxx

Re: going braless 24/7?
Some get instructions to wear a bra post op, others are told not too, all depends on the ps... but if your ps has reccomended to wear one, then you should, as everyone has different post op instructions based on your individual operation.
Have you tried bigger sports bras, with both the band and cup being bigger? I know it can feel weird to waer a bra as when the boobs are new they are kinds of tight and stiff in there, as they soften and settle into place wearing a bra does become more comfortable.
Also, I wore a plain cotton singlet (vest) underneath my bra to provide some comfort and protection to the the tender boobs and nipples and the sensitive skin, and it really did help!

I had Silimed implants and was instructed not to wear a bra for 3 weeks. After that I could wear a non underwired bra and then underwired bras after 6 weeks. But it sounds like in your case your surgeon needs you to wear something?

I would follow the advise given to you buy your surgeon. If he has told you to wear a bra with a wire then thats what should be done to get the best result from your B.A.
If the bra he has told you to wear is causing you problems then give the clinic a call and ask to see the nurse and she will offer you some advise on the best course of action.
Your boobs are going to hurt and have odd sensations for the 1st 3-6 months....youll have nurves healing which again its not the best feeling! I couldnt stand anything rubbin or touching against my boobs at the 2 month mark but still wore a bra and just had to deal with it till the feelings passed.
If you really cant cope id give you clinic a ring and see if you really do have to wear a bra.........

Re: going braless 24/7?
I am just over 3 weeks post op and I have been wearing a sports bra that is a size smaller. I was told by a few people that bras with underwires are really not good for breast with implants but I am not sure how true that is. I am not a fan of underwire bras either way so I plan on purchasing bras without wires from Victorias Secret. I would wear a sports bra if I was you. My breast look much smaller in a sports bra almost like a large C or small D depending on the shirt. My breast look smaller and more natural in t-shirts vs tank tops or camis. Hope that helps. Out of a sports bra they look huge. The sports bra will help you hide them.

Re: going braless 24/7?
Thank you sooo much, ladies! All of your comments are wonderful. I will contact my PS and let you guys know what he says...He has told me that about 10 days post-op there is really nothing (reasonable) I could do to disrupt anything he's done surgically. I'm guessing that means that he is under the impression that bras are optional, but I won't know till I explicitly ask!!! Think I'm going the sports bra route for the next 3 weeks though...seems like it would be a good thing to do, and that way I won't poke anyone's eye out at the grocery store!! LOL

Re: going braless 24/7?
Moongal, I am 1 wk post BA and I too am super sensitive, my entire breast feels like its throbbing and tingling, my nipples hate anything but air!! ;) For functionality at work with certain tops ( I have a desk job btw) I do wear the self sticky reusable silicone "nippies"
I was told to go braless during the day, and to wear a sportsbra at night, but to wear it at the top of my implants, to push them down. (I guess this helps the muscle not to hold onto them so high, I have unders)
He said at two weeks for my 2nd post op appt, he would have me start wearing a sportsbra during the day, but keep pushing them down at night.
I do agree we should follow our own PS advice, he may give different instructions for different implant placement, incision point, etc.
Or he may have read surgical journals with a particular study that persuaded him that one recommendeation is better than another?
I think a phone call really would be a good idea to your clinic though!
Good luck hunny!

Re: going braless 24/7?
Hi Moongal,
This post is interesting, so many of us being given different advice by our PS'. I'm having my op on 3rd August and my PS has told me not to wear bras immediately after the op and go without one for as long as possible. He recommends that i just wear crop tops...... This is to encourage the implant to drop as soon as (i'm having unders btw).
Hope you find a suitable comfy bra!

Re: going braless 24/7?
I agree, NikiH! I think a lot of it may depend on the particular person's features and type/size/placement of implant...so that's why we all get slightly different advice? Who knows, but this girl likes going braless! I think since i have small implants and small boobies to start with maybe my PS isn't so concerned with sagging. Still need to call!!

Re: going braless 24/7?
I'm doing my housekeeping braless right now!! It's nice to not have anything touching them!! I was told to wear the sports bra (and sleep as upright as possible) for the first couple wks - to keep them in the best position possible. They recommended not going braless but every so often because of the potential of sagging with the bigger/weightier breasts. They recommended not sleeping braless which is good right now because they're still sore (that will change when my OH gets home tomorrow from months stationed overseas ;). (hee hee) As for the underwire- once your scars are healed up it's supposed to be ok, personally mine are still sore but of they don't bother you it should be ok :). Congrats!!!! They look great!!!!
