interesting help to scar healing Empty interesting help to scar healing

Post by springstep123 7th July 2011, 11:11 pm

Hey, had my 1 week check at my hosp in london today. My surgeon took off my steri strips and said my scars have healed perfectly (YAY!! interesting help to scar healing 923101 )... she then cut a strip of micropore tape and stuck one on each scar, where the steri had been. She says there's research to show taped scars (or those where you use those silicone sheets) mature much faster than free scars, though by 2 years there's no difference. So tape them to make them mature faster! Isn't that weird!?

I just thought I'd share this with you as I like the idea of mature scars as i worry they will stretch or something if my boob gets yanked up by a distracted male interesting help to scar healing 557141

The tape she used is cheap in boots, in the first aid section. It's really papery, almost like masking tape (though DONT recommend you use that!!)

You're welcome. It says on that other forum that you don't need to peel the tape off every day, keep it on till it almost drops off after a weekk or so then replace. Wish id known that as i found it blimmin tough to pull off in the shower, now annoyed ive stretched the scar! lol

Am DEFFO going to be having taped scars for the next 2 or 3 months.

Mmm... interesting. I kept mine taped for 3 weeks and went i removed them they look great. They are sooo thin and barely noticable... maybe that helped. My PS just told me to keep the steri strip on for three weeks if I could!

I've actually had insulin injected into my wounds after the operation, research apparently shows that it reduces scarring and it reduces the risk of that side effect where the pocket the implant in goes hard.. Can't remember the actual name.

Also, my friend had that tape on her scars and they have completely disappeared, you wouldn't suspect she had a BA :)

My surgeon gave me micropore tape to wear for a month after I had the dressings off, it made my scars nice and flat. You should only change it once a week or if it starts to peel off or you might irritate the skin. Xx

I have been wearing tape and have to wear it for another 6 weeks at least.. i wasnt really listening when he told me about removing it and actually ripped skin off the other day lol.. luckily it wasnt near my scar that would have been painful!

He told me to leave it on for about 5-6 days until it starts peeling at the ends and then take it off in the shower..

I go on holiday in 4 weeks tho so not sure what im supposed to do then?

i doubt it, it was soo hard to get it off in the shower last night! it doesnt soak, weird.

If it does though, no biggie, you'd just reapply some more after your next shower!! =)
