nausea
OK, this may sound really silly, but I'm almost as worried about the nausea as anything else to do with the surgery!
I'm almost phobic about being sick. Literally I will do everything to avoid being sick, even when I need to I will just be like "NO THIS IS NOT HAPPENING!" Is it really that bad after the GA? Are most people sick? I'd rather be in pain than feel nauseous. Can they give you the anti-nausea drug before you even start feeling sick or do you have to feel sick first?

Re: nausea
I've had a GA 3 times and never been sick or felt sick. Some do but most don't - you'll probably be fine x

Re: nausea
I had the anti sickness drug put through the drip in my hand just before i had the ga so totally avoided the situation as I was dreading being sick too, just explain to your nurse and im sure she'll sort you out! xxx

Re: nausea
As em_stevo said Jessica if you explain to the nurse and aneathisist, they adjust meds accordingly and can top up afterwards too as they do not want you feeling or being sick either. It does work as I have experienced G.A. without and it makes a big difference. Take Care xx

Re: nausea
It didn't make me feel sick at all, it affects people in different ways so you may be ok. Just explain to the nurse how you feel xx

Re: nausea
My friend told me that she was injected with anti sickness drugs before her GA. She was still ill after but it could have been a lot worse if she hadn't have had the drugs.
All this will be sorted before you go under so try not to worry.

Re: nausea
Hi hun,
I felt sick when i had some food after my op, i told the nurse and within seconds i had an anti-sickness jab and the feeling went immediatly.
I was sick off the painkillers about 2 days after the op so i just stopped taking them. And they do advise you try and use as little pain relief as you can.

Re: nausea
I was also phobic about being sick... and the anaethetist was great when I told him... He said he'd make sure I had plenty of the anti-sickness meds. I was absolutely fine. I had no sickness and not even any feelings of nausea.
I know that nads also was worried about being sick and I'm pretty sure she was fine too. I'm sure she'll be along soon to help put your mind at rest

Re: nausea
Good post jess, I was thinking the same thing. I too have a phobia about being sick and absolutely dread the thought of feeling rough after the op. I had an two lots of endoscopy and colonscopy and had lots of petridine (i think) which was a local sedative to put me to sleep and was sick both times. After I was sick the nurse injected me with anti sickness med in my lol and I felt fine after. So scared, will defo tell the nurse before I have my op

Re: nausea
I have the same phobia, a few of us do on here and my anaesthetist gave me 3 different types of anti-emetic drugs and i didnt feel the slightest bit ill when i woke up, i did tell him about my phobia beforehand too x
Re: nausea
I didnt say anything beforehand about not wanting to feel sick after i woke up etc, it didnt cross my mind. When i woke up and came round i wasnt sick and i didnt feel sick at all x

Re: nausea
My anaesthetist explained to me that some ops were more likely to make you feel ill. I have previously had a laparoscopy and he said that it was more likely to feel ill after a laparoscopy and that the BA shouldn't be that bad (he also gave me 3 different types of anti-sickness drug). As I said in my previous post I was completly fine after my BA. I was careful to follow the instructions given by the clinic, regarding eating and drinking before my op too.

Re: nausea
I was sick after my op which wan't nice but then as I felt like I might be sick a second time they gave me the anti sickness jab and the nausea dissappeared INSTANTLY was quite strange how it jut vanished and I felt fine after that. I'm sure if you are really worried about being sick you could ask them in advance for the jab just to make sure you're ok :-) xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Re: nausea
Like nads says, quite a few girls suffer from the same phobia so it must be quite common, just make sure you tell the anaesthetist before so he/she will give you extra anti-sickness drugs with the GA and you'll be fine!!
