Wedding ring?
Sorry, last minute question!...
Will I be able to keep my wedding/engagement/eternity rings on for my op tomorrow? Obviously I'd rather keep them on but if I'm not allowed to then I'll want to leave them at home (rather than in my room at the hospital).
Anyone know?!
Ta x

Re: Wedding ring?
I had to take all jewelry off. Think they use electical equipment which if you are wearing a conductive metal could mean you burn where your wedding rings are. They will make you take them off.
Re: Wedding ring?
Not had my ba yet but had a few operations and have always been allowed to leave my wedding & engagement rings on but they covered them with tape x

Re: Wedding ring?
hmm just looking at what the tape does and it stops the electic between two pieces of metal, but you cant wear 2 rings close together as it will make a pathway for the electrical current and burn your finger. Also they may make you sign a waiver if you want to keep jewelry on. It's very rare that you would get burned by the looks of it.
Re: Wedding ring?
That's interesting, I didn't know the reason before. I always thought it was something to do with swelling and circulation.

Re: Wedding ring?
I think it's the thing they use to cauterize the wound (internally) to stop the bleeding (Electrocautery). Although dont quote me on that. God knows what other instrements they use, dont think I want to know.
Re: Wedding ring?
I had several surgeries and always had to take all jewelry off.I'd ask about the hospitals policy in regards to it just to be sure.

I too have had several ops and have always been allowed to keep my wedding ring on, they have just covered it with tape. All my other jewellery was removed. xx
